Great set with a few flaws

This is a fun build, took me about a week since the wings are repetitive and I did one wing per day. I don't like to rush my builds. But, the attention to detail here is wonderful. The cockpit looks fantastic, the detail on the wings and engines are really nice, the greebling on the top and back of the main body is great, and I like the Luke Skywalker minifigure - very cool detail there.
The wing opening/closing mechanism is interesting - it's a rubber band - but it isn't very sturdy. They do "lock" into place but not very firmly, so for display, you have to mess with it a little as the wings and laser cannons also won't always sit straight when displayed. I had to use a folded piece of paper hidden beneath a wing, placed between the wing and body, to hold it straight while on display. It's very easy to tell when the wings aren't straight because of the four laser cannons and four rear engines, but it's a simple adjustment. I don't mind having to use a piece of paper because you can't see it unless you look behind the model, but it is a flaw.
The model is also fragile, small pieces can pop off easily, as can some of the body paneling. But this is not a play set. The included stand is nice, and necessary, but the angle is off because aiming the X-wing upward means that it is difficult to see the best detail of the model - the top of the wings, the top of the body, and the cockpit. So I simply turned the stand sideways so the X-wing is, instead, level and banking to one side so you can see the body and wing detail.
I also added a light kit, which is challenging with this model (other models, like the UCS Millennium Falcon, make the wires easier to hide), but it really makes it come alive.
Overall, if you love Star Wars and love the X-wing, this is a great model. It just takes some patience and understanding that it isn't perfect, the wings are repetitive builds, it may take some fussing around to display it correctly, and it is for display only. Otherwise, a very good UCS model that fits great in my collection. I just wish the Luke minifigure could fit in the cockpit!

Great Model. I got in to Lego after the last UCS X-Wing was retired. I so wanted one, but I didn’t want to spend the extra money purchasing it on the secondary market. I was overjoyed when this new, updated X-wing was announced. I built it as soon as I received it. No complaints.

Flimsy and missing pieces

Cool set and bigger than I thought but one piece was damaged and I was also missing another piece, now I have to wait 7-10 business days to finish it. For a set this expensive there should be a little better quality control. Do better Lego!

Looks great, but that's about it.

I was very happy when I finished building. It looks great and it'll sit on my shelf, but like a lot of reviews I have an issue with the wings and the gap. I'm not sure what could have been done to fix it, so I'm not going to judge on that. The reason it'll sit on my self is I'm afraid to touch it ever again. I thought I did something wrong or missed a step, so I rebuilt it once. However that didn't help. It's not very stable and things pop off SUPER easy. Plus I have 3 parts that are highly visible that are scratched, and spending that much money on something and getting scratched pieces really hurts. Overall it looks great. I'm debating if I should super glue some of the parts to make it more stable. Which is a bummer if I ever want to rebuild it. Two of the three parts that are scratched are unavailable to get replacements. I'm assuming its because a lot of people had the same issue. I've never had a scratched part issue so I'm guessing this is a one time event.

Flimsy

As others have said, this is a "handle with care" model. The side pieces are held together precariously with very few solid touch points. Very easy to knock a side panel off. Not sure how long the 2 small rubber band mechanism will hold, and it's not like you can just pop a panel off to replace it. It looks great, but don't touch it.

Mediocre UCS X-Wing
on May 17, 2023

While some people may be majorly let down if huge LEGO enthusiasts or collectors, however, I would say it makes for a decent display piece (especially if this is your first UCS X-wing or UCS set in general.) With that said, it definitely has some glaring problems in several areas I've found: 1) The build itself is pretty fun, but it's not the most stable build ever. The main portions are held by two technic pins and a few clear pieces near the nose that can very easily fall apart if not handled with some care, and some of the wing detailings near the rear are always falling off personally. 2) They should include a plastic bag for the cockpit hatch, mine was not scratched, but very easily could during shipment. 3) The actual display stand is terribly weak in regards to supporting the weight of the finished set. This really needs a fix officially from LEGO, I recommend modifying it as needed. 4) R2-D2 should have been to scale along with a minifig to stand next to the awesomely printed Pilot Luke Skywalker. 5) The last criticism is the use of the rubber bands, with ZERO given spares... I truly hope these age well...

Nice Addition to the Star Wars Lego Universe

I was happy to get a copy of this X-Wing fighter as a UCS version. I enjoyed the build and did not have some of the problems mentioned in other reviews. At age 70, I've learned patience and gentle handling goes a long way in building these large and complex Lego models ( I'm veteran of the Millennium Falcon). That said, I have some suggestions for the Lego engineers. For example, in steps 189 and 232 you can see where a few more blocks could have been used to strengthen the nose sides. In step 207, more than two connections to the fighter frame could have been used . The two connections used in the back are not enough in my opinion and additional connection points would have solved the somewhat loose nose side panels. Using the nose cone to help keep these pieces in place was kind of weak. In step 294, using the two pieces indicated to attach to the stand to support the X-Wing model was ludicrous at best. As others have noted, these pieces keep falling off. I solved the problem with a couple of drops of Locktite Super-Glue. However, a much better support system should have been designed here. In my opinion, this is the weakest part of this model. Finally, in step 300, it looked like R2-D2 was a little low in the body. After reviewing the Star Wars movies and looking at the pictures in the assembly manual, I used a couple of spare 1-stud squares to raise R2-D2 up to a suitable height where, in the Star Wars movies he is seen "fixing" the fighter while in flight. Overall, I enjoyed building this model and I look forward to displaying it in my collection once a suitable display case is available.

Love it to Tatooine and back

This was a fun build and you are left with a HUGE display X-Wing. I have not yet experienced any of the faulty stand. I also dont find it flimsy for how much weight it has to hold up. All together, this was well worth the money and looks great next to other Starwars models.
