X-wing review

One the most frustrating builds I ever done this set is only a set I would recommend as a viewing the most fragile set I ever built when attaching parts others fell off it’s a great looking piece to view at the end the build like a piece of art very satisfying to see at end from all the hassle of reattaching parts as they fall off. Also it really only stays in attack mode when built with wings spread from the weight.Just so you know what your getting into.

Not fun

I do not recommend this build. I am on my 4th attempt to build this. Every time you get close to finishing everything falls apart. Then you need to rebuild the middle in order to attempt to attach the wings again. Not sure if I will ever finish this build without it breaking.

Good quality display model

I've wanted an UCS X-Wing for awhile and I'm really happy with how this model turned out! This looks like an update and reprint from the previous two UCS X-Wing sets and is the same scale/size. Compared to the minifig-scale 75218, this larger scaled UCS gives room for extra details over all the surfaces. There are four stickers total. Luke has a painted visor and a smaller helmet compared to 75218's Luke. I personally didn't encounter any difficulties building the kit—it was a pleasant build. The model can be easily handled near the back/bottom without breaking, but it's built for display and not extended play. The "lock S-foils into attack positions" mechanism is very clever but slightly wobbly. It has two states (lock/unlock) vs. the previous UCS X-Wing's geared mechanism. When the wings are closed, there's an even gap between, which looks good to me (how I imagine a "real" X-Wing would have). The X-Wing can stand on the thrusters, but I wouldn't leave it that way as each wing is essentially attached via one Technic bar. This is a model I'm excited to keep!

More nitpicks than complaints

This is a beautifully detailed display piece that is slightly diminished by some questionable design decisions. As others have noted, the 'S-Foil' mechanism is not strong enough to keep the wings securely closed, and can come untracked too easily. I didn't have any problems with the nose sections, but the side panels around the wings pop off too easily, and they're hard to reattach properly with the wings installed. I also had problems with the bottom stops on the display stand popping off due to the weight of the ship. For now I've improvised an elastic solution so I don't have to break out the Kraggle. :) Once assembled and displayed, it's a sight to behold!

The original was better

You would think this set having an additional 400 pieces to the last UCS Red 5 X-Wing would be an upgrade. It unfortunately isn’t. This set is beyond flimsy and poorly constructed. The wing operation is comical at best, the sides of the fuselage have atrocious gaps and one small sneeze and it will all crumble apart. Hopefully this set will be retired quickly so others don’t suffer this embarrassment from Lego.

Terrible UCS set
on October 8, 2023

Sadly, this is probably one of the worst sets I've purchased. The only real good part of the building experience was the wing mechanism, but not the wings themselves. Proportionally, it does seem fairly good, but I'm not really an expert on design. Only visual thing they could've done better would have been the section in front of the canopy. Fell like it should've narrowed up a bit.
And, that brings me to the highly negative part of my review. First, the wings. I'm certain other reviewers have mentioned that there's too much wing droop due to the weight on the ends of the wings, without much in the way of core support. In the open position, you don't notice it as much, but in the closed position, you can clearly see the separation along the wings.
But the main reason for my highly negative review has to be the engineering section covers. In order to achieve the angles required, the lego designer used the hinge bricks with the 2x2 hinge plates. Normally that wouldn't be a huge problem, but for whatever reason, I kept breaking them off. Normally one or two initially, but when trying to fix, ended up breaking most of them off. After several repair attempts, consulting the manual each time to make certain I had in fact built correctly, I gave up and finished the rest of the build.
Sadly, after being on display for a couple months, the shelf it was on was tipped, and the model crashed to the ground. Too much of a pain to try and rebuild.

Absolute garbage

This is the single worst UCS set I have ever built. The experience is awful. The set is so unstable that it falls apart with the smallest touch. How this made it by QA is beyond me. Lego needs to fix this set ASAP. Poor quality and poor build.
