For full functionality, we do recommend using both the backup batteries and the included power adapter. When operating on battery power alone, the backlight is only available momentarily for 10 seconds by pressing the backlight button. We recommend reviewing the suggestions in the following link for assistance with setting up the Wi-Fi feature: https://support.acurite.com/hc/en-us/articles/360050596233-Direct-to-Wi-Fi-Weather-Station-Setup-
Actually in the last 10 years I've bought 4 of these units, two for myself and one for each of my kids. This particular unit is for my daughter and her family. I think it's not only fun to keep track of your weather data but a great motivator for kids to learn about meteorology and not to mention the educational value of setting it up. These units hold up and work well.
Just bought a new accurite weather station to replace one I've had for about 6 years which stopped working. Put new one up with fresh batteries, worked for a few weeks, now the temperature sensor is way off, and the rainfall and wind speed seem to mot be calibrated at all. Followed all the setup directions.
