Ice Ice Baby!

Super easy to hook up to the window, I didn't use the infamous sticky foam stuff to seal as my window has a cavity and hugs up to the plastic window insert nicely. 12000BTU does the job in my north facing 400 sq ft condo. The owner in the unit above mine installed a window model 14000 which does a better job cooling but actually is noisier than this Danby. Good price and hopefully will get 10 years out of it. Update: I have used this unit for over a month and this Danby 12000 kicks butt! I needed another unit so found a top of the line Dehonghi on Craigslist barely used 14000 whisper quiet and did a side by side and measured the noise level, the Danby was 1 DB louder than the Dehonghi (so not much) and the Danby pumps out colder air as well, the Danby is actually a better unit in terms of compressor noise and appears to have a slow charge fire up where the Delonghi clunks into action and physically bounces slightly when the compressor turns off which actually is startling. In the non compressor pre blow mode the Danby beats the Delonghi hands down for noise and is barely noticeable. The Danby remote is also superior as it has a led readout where the Delonghi is just buttons and no onscreen indicator. The infamous Delonghi window mount kit is embarrassing and is too short for most windows. This is the same kit that came with my 4 year old unit so Delonghi needs to start listening to their customers and upgrade the window kit. I only paid $250 used for the used Delonghi which I am happy with (I believe retail 499 - 699) and we shall see which of these units gives out first but for the money at a purchase price of 337 the Danby is a better buy, smaller, only 1db louder and the window kit and remote are superior over the Delonghi and if you can purchase for less than 350 then this unit is a steal! Very happy with the performance so far, chills out my 400 sq ft studio apartment nicely.

I did a few days of research before deciding on this unit and I am so glad that I chose it. It effortlessly cools an open concept den on my main floor from 27 degrees to 20 degrees in just over an hour and a half. Instant relief from the heat wave. Best of all, we love the portability of this unit and move it to the baby’s room and he sleeps comfortably through the night. Now 5 days later I’ve come back to buy another one for our bedroom and it’s sold out. Well worth the investment so if you’re hesitating, don’t waste anymore time.

Was lucky enough to get this on sale for about 20% off which I'd say rings closer to its true value. For it's current price (can't mention because of reviewing rules), I'd consider it, but also consider what else is out there.
Set up was pretty quick. It may require a handsaw depending on the size your window so keep that in mind and keep one handy as you may need it, but otherwise everything else is quite easy especially if you follow along with a YouTube video (which I recommend). The wheels on it are smooth making it easy to adjust the angle or move it around room to room, however i'm not sure how it hold up on carpet, but a smooth surface like wood, it's quite effortless to push around.
It dispenses nice cold air and is doing a nice job at keeping my room cooler than the rest of the house on a hot day. It can cool my room down to a point where I need to put on warmer clothing which is a sign of a good AC. Since I've used it, the outdoor temperatures have reached up to 33C and it has kept me nice and comfortable in my room of 121sq feet. So if that's the size of your room, this will work easily, but it will require a good 30 minutes to cool the room down from at somewhat muggy state, longer if your room is bigger.
It is fairly loud, which is expected. If had to compare it with something else, I'd say it's similar to a vacuum cleaner at 50% reduced volume. Basically loud enough that you'll have to raise your voice to be able talk to someone in the same room. So not impossible to sleep to, but not easy either.
Overall happy with the product!

Portable AC

Danby AC - great for this muggy weather. Can be very loud. A pain to move it to the bedroom, so of no value there. I'm in a 1 bedroom apt and it keeps it relatively cool, but nothing for the bedroom. Would I recommend it, probably not. not a portable as you may think. Disappointed, thought it would be easier to move from living room to bedroom. Still better than the window AC. With the new laws, you cannot have a window AC in your bedroom (no balcony there) due to safety reasons.
Wouldn't return it as it is working, and can sleep in the living room if need be.
