Super easy to hook up to the window, I didn't use the infamous sticky foam stuff to seal as my window has a cavity and hugs up to the plastic window insert nicely. 12000BTU does the job in my north facing 400 sq ft condo. The owner in the unit above mine installed a window model 14000 which does a better job cooling but actually is noisier than this Danby. Good price and hopefully will get 10 years out of it. Update: I have used this unit for over a month and this Danby 12000 kicks butt! I needed another unit so found a top of the line Dehonghi on Craigslist barely used 14000 whisper quiet and did a side by side and measured the noise level, the Danby was 1 DB louder than the Dehonghi (so not much) and the Danby pumps out colder air as well, the Danby is actually a better unit in terms of compressor noise and appears to have a slow charge fire up where the Delonghi clunks into action and physically bounces slightly when the compressor turns off which actually is startling. In the non compressor pre blow mode the Danby beats the Delonghi hands down for noise and is barely noticeable. The Danby remote is also superior as it has a led readout where the Delonghi is just buttons and no onscreen indicator. The infamous Delonghi window mount kit is embarrassing and is too short for most windows. This is the same kit that came with my 4 year old unit so Delonghi needs to start listening to their customers and upgrade the window kit. I only paid $250 used for the used Delonghi which I am happy with (I believe retail 499 - 699) and we shall see which of these units gives out first but for the money at a purchase price of 337 the Danby is a better buy, smaller, only 1db louder and the window kit and remote are superior over the Delonghi and if you can purchase for less than 350 then this unit is a steal! Very happy with the performance so far, chills out my 400 sq ft studio apartment nicely.

I agree with all the top reviews. This a/c is excellent.
I've had 2 other portable units before this one. I still have all 3 but my first one was starting to sound like a semi. This Danby is very quiet.
It cools my bedroom very well. It's the first time I've had to turn an a/c unit down because it is too cold :D
It moves very easily on my hard wood floors although I don't move it around as it's just for my bedroom.
I would recommend this to a friend!

It Doesn't Get Cold

I bought this last summer for my open concept living room but I later realized that it wasn't getting cold enough for the small space. At first I thought it was just because of the temperature of that week but even when it got cooler, I still had to turn my fan on when the AC is on to help me cool down my apartment. I am not sure if the AC was delivered with less gas in the compressor or what.
Upon delivery, I also noticed that one of the window sealing plate came broken.
The only reason I didn't return this unit was because I couldn't go to the store myself at that time hence why I ordered online.
What's the point ordering online if a bad unit will be delivered to you. :(
I tired the dehumidifier several times and it doesn't do anything, or maybe I just didn't notice.
Oh and it is LOUD, always placed my TV volume really high to hear it when unit is on.
When you purchase this, make sure to test it within the warranty period and return if you feel it's not working well and/or buy a high BTU instead.
I hope this helps you guys.

It took us awhile to get our Danby 3 in 1 hooked up as my husband is 86 and I am disabled. We had to wait for a few friends and their schedules. It was not as easy to fit to our apartment window as we were led to believe. We had to have extra grooved pieces of wood made up to keep it secure. It hasn’t been necessary to use the a/c yet but today was a bit warmer so I turned it on. It cooled the room and hallway quite quickly plus the sound isn’t bad. The price was on sale so fingers crossed but with the 4 year extra warranty invested I think we made a great choice!

Since the day of purchase unit only runs for 3 minutes then goes to lowest fan setting for three minutes and this continues the entire night. Wont cool bedroom as it doesn't run long enough.
