[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I wanted a unit to cool my entire 2nd floor apartment which is 57ft in length and just under 500sq ft. I am very happy with the cooling power as it does in fact cool the entire apartment on 90 degree plus days and if I use a fan in the hallway or dining room it gets even cooler. I had some trouble setting up the wifi initially; it took longer than I liked and I had to restart the process several times to successfully connect it to my google home network. However I have not had one issue with functionality once I got it connected. And it impresses my friends when I say "ok google, turn on the air conditioner and set to 70 degrees." I can even use my car or the LG App to fully operate the unit when I'm not at home. I LOVE THE SMART FEATURES. Its a heavy unit but I was able to install it alone because the outer cabinet separates from the internal parts which allowed me to secure the light cabinet to the window sill and frame. Then all I did was slide the unit into the cabinet and I'm impressed at how secure and solid the install is. VERY QUIET unit. It does not sound or operate like a traditional a/c. Blower is smooth and you almost can't tell the difference from cool and fan only modes. Haven't got my first energy bill so can't comment on efficiency. Definitely happy with the product.

Very upset, had running for a week and now compressor is not working. Shuts off after 10 minutes of running. I put service request in so we will see how long it takes to resolve.

Quiet and cold, but not for all windows

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We just got this less than a week ago so I can’t speak about longevity or power usage. We checked the window requirements before purchasing, but I didn’t see anything about not installing on a window that is flush with an outside wall. We haven’t had issues with our one smaller window unit in our guest bedroom. Our other air conditioners have been portable units. We had not been able to get the house below 84 degrees when it was 90 degrees outside, so we decided to get a larger window unit for the main, upstairs living area. This has been able to keep the house at 70-75 degrees on the 90-95 degree days despite losing some of the cooling to the basement of our split level. We have even been cooking, baking, running the dishwasher, and the washer and dryer. We weren’t able to do anything that would make the house hotter or more humid with the portable unit. It is still a little undersized for our house but we didn’t have the right outlet for a larger unit and we were going to install the portable one downstairs if we needed to. This unit is about 54 dB when it is running on high. Our portable one would be about 69dB. We wanted to get a smaller one of these for our bedroom, but can’t find one.
My main issue is that it cannot be installed easily on a window that is flush with the exterior of the house. We were putting it in a window over our deck so we were able to build a table to support the weight. The sill brackets didn’t have enough sill to support them. Our final windows are a bit raised off the inside sill, so we would have needed to put in a piece of wood to screw it into that sill. The second issue was that the instructions to put on the front of the unit didn’t warn us about threading the vent lever through the front until after it said to snap the panel on to the frame. We almost lost that lever. There were a bunch of other warnings and stickers giving instructions, but we were going step by step and snapped on the front then read the next part about making sure the lever was threaded right before snapping. We also had an issue with putting a hole in one of the side panels as we were screwing it onto the unit. Overall, we were able to get it installed and the seals are pretty tight. Just be aware that it might be an issue for windows that are higher off the ground.

Needs a 20 amp dedicated circuit!!
on August 25, 2020

I bought this unit for my garage. The "outer shell" made install a breeze, and it cools the space wonderfully. Unfortunately, I had some trouble with this unit at first. I plugged it into a 15 amp GFCI outlet and it tripped the GFCI as soon as the compressor kicked on. I tried this on 2 other 15a GFCIs around the garage to confirm it wasn't the outlet itself, but it tripped every 15a GFCI that I tried. The kitchen GFCIs are all 20a, so I ran a 12 AWG extension cord to a kitchen outlet and the unit ran just fine. Unfortunately, I couldn't just swap a 15a GFCI for a 20a, because the garage was pulled with 14 AWG romex, and a 20a requires 12 AWG. At this point I contacted an electrician to get their input. They were able to add a dedicated 20a single outlet circuit, and the unit now operates normally. The electrician highly advised *against* placing a unit like this on a GFCI outlet, which is pretty much impossible in a standard garage. I've had a smaller window unit and never had a power issue like this, so this was a new one for me. Googling didn't help much, so I hope someone reads this review and it saves them some time and frustration! 1 star removed for the time lost figuring out how to get it to work!

Inverter technology in a window unit? Amazing!

I bought one of these almost a year ago, which was when I started seeing it available online. It cost much more than other traditional 14K BTU window units but I was intrigued by the dual inverter technology. Before our house got redone, we had window units. Now every room has a split AC unit. My aunt wanted an AC for her house (large living room) so I ordered one of these LGs. I took a gamble and hoped the price difference was worth it. Zero regrets, and no problems with it! It's SO quiet -- I'd say louder than a split AC but a good bit quieter than a traditional window unit. You can easily watch TV or have a conversation with this on.
The 14K unit is HUGE. You'll want to think about installation before hand. It has a removable sleeve which gets installed first, then the insides slide into that. I had to put something outside to support the unit. The box is really big so that was a clue but definitely worth the effort.
My aunt's house has high ceiling and it's hot and humid most days here so she runs it often. I added a supplemental 8K BTU unit for super hot days because this 14K unit is on the small side for the area; the larger dual inverter unit would've been perfect but we didn't want to install a 220V line. Otherwise, this 14K on its own easily takes the edge off of hot days and certainly gets rid of humidity which makes things much more comfortable even if it's not an igloo. Inverter units are much more efficient and that was also a selling point. I would certainly spend the extra $ and purchase one of these again in the future.

Bad product

I bought this less than 3 years ago, and the amount of corrosion to the back compressor was not worthy of the LG name. This with that part being under total cover from the elements of weather. The difficulty of getting this unit replaced has Lao been a nightmare.

I have owned several larger window air conditioners over the years. My old 12000 BTU was getting old and after doing much research I decided on the LG 14000 BTU.I have been out of touch with the latest ac technology and I was surprised with all the features the LG had and how well they worked.I compared my old ac with a 1952 Chevy and the LG is a top of the line Mercedes.I am very satisfied with my new LG air conditioner and I would suggest anyone looking for a new ac unit to do your research and take a close look at the LG line of air conditioners.I think you will be very impressed.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this air conditioner to replace a 15000 btu unit. It’s keeping it just as cool if not cooler. It’s so much quieter than the other model.
