[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] NOTE: this is a repost of a review I wrote a few months ago. There used to be a couple of dozen writeups here, but all of them disappeared. Grumble.
Anyway:
Traditional window units, and most central ones, have compressor (the "cooling" part) loops that are fully on/fully off, with the cycling controlled by the thermostat. So if you've got, say, a 14,000 BTU/hr on a hot summer day, the compressor/cooling might be on for four minutes, then off for 30 seconds, then on/off again. Rinse, lather, repeat.
Each time it turns on there's that kerchunk we all know and love.
If it's just a warm day, then it'll be on for 30 seconds before the shutoff.
Inverter units adjust the output so if only 5,000 BTUs are needed to keep the room cool, the unit downshifts to 1/3rd the output. Much less cycling, lower power draw while the "cooling" is running (yes, it'll be a bigger percantage of the time but... more efficiently), and in general much more civilized.
Note that when I picked mine up _ONLY_ "Home Depot" had them, and I had to travel to one way out of town to pick it up. This line of LG window units is brand new and hard to find. That should clear up one of these days.
Anyway, short version: This (or the other size ones) are the way to go for window a/cs.
Pros: Performance

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought the LG 14,00 BTU for my 650sq ft apt. Intsalled it in my room and boy o boy it cools down to my living room within 10-15mins. I’m so happy with this investment in this ac. It’s so quiet not like my others!! Definitely worth the money!! Thank you LG!! Now just have to hook up the app and I’m in business!!
Pros: ease of use, Performance

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have been using the LG Duel Inverter ac since June it is now October and I'm pleased to say it is great! My electric bill is much lower than with the old unit and it cools better. The noise isn't bad even when it is on full force, it gradually powers on and you don't notice as much. I haven't used the smart app part not really needed in my situation. I highly recommend.

Works great as long as not on gfci

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] DOES ANYBODY HAVE THIS SUCCESSFULLY INSTALLED ON A GFCI OUTLET? I have a dedicated 15amp circuit for this ac and every time compressor kicks on it trips the gfci outlet it is plugged in to. I replaced the gfci with a brand new one and same thing happens. Its not tripping because of circuit overload. When i replaced with standard 3 prong 15 amp outlet it runs just fine and does NOT trip the breaker at the panel. Same with two other circuits I've cleared to test. Ive had other non dual inverters plugged into this gfci outlet and doesnt trip the gfci. This leads me to believe there is some voltage being leaked to the ground which is causing it to trip. I'm thinking possible due to dual inverter.
Is this standard operation or possible malfunction?
Otherwise when ac is plugged into standard 3 prong outlet it works wonderfully. Im used to old brown acs this thing cools awesomely and it 75% more quiet.
Install was a bit tricky but got in done with one of the not so universal brackets.
3 stars until I can confirm its longevity and that the gfci issue is not an issue with the air conditioner.

I purchased the unit last week online, and the fan is not powerful enough so I want to return the unit. I have called LG for 4 days now, each morning, to get a return authorization, and cannot get through. I have been transferred, hung-up on, and am horrified regarding their treatment of customers. Do not purchase.
business model. I will not purchase this product again, and think about it yourself.

I purchased this AC, and the first one came completely broken. The piece that supported the fan was moving and made a lot of noise. I was not able to just replace it, so I had to return it and try to repurchase it.
When I was able to purchase it for the second time, the box was fine; however, the outside frame of the AC was all bent and scratched. It is working fine for now, but sometimes it gets loud when it is trying to cool down the room.
Pros: Style/Design

Game Changer

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I purchased the 18k and 22k Dual Inverter AC units and had them installed in my wall. These are game changers for window/wall mounted AC units. They not only keep the entire first floor dry and cool (on Long Island) but they are silent compared to aby other units in the market. The 22k unit is above my kitchen table and cools a large family room all with high ceilings. I used to turn the AC off so we could talk during dinner or watch a movie. Those days are gone! I cant speak long term as these are new but I will update this review gong forward. So far, GAME CHANGER!!!
