It's loud, like way to loud. I bought this very recently and I thought it was something when the installation occured but no. It's been like this since I connected it for the first time.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

We would like to assist you with the sound level of your air conditioner. We recommend checking that the front grille is in good condition, the air filter is clean, and the unit is installed properly. Remove the grille and inspect it to confirm it is not damaged. If it is not broken, reinstall the grille.
Make sure to check and clean the air filter, and remove any debris or dirt from the exterior of the air conditioner. You can clean the air filter by following the instructions on page 7 of the owner's manual here: https://products-salsify.geappliances.com/image/upload/s--1Gj9MhQv--/gbm56ornmlztisb8sgox.pdf
Additionally, you can find installation information starting on page 8 and information on reducing the sound level of the unit on page 14 of said owner's manual.
If the issue persists, we recommend contacting our warranty department at 833-426-3393.
