The (upside down) u shape is ideal and safer than most window units available on the market. Cooling works. No complaints. It's so quiet, you can't tell it is on.

We ordered two of these sleek units for a summer cottage. So far, they are living up to the job. Cools quickly, wi-fi control is spot on, noise level low and love the clear-view low mount. Nothing like the one we formerly used. Thanks GE!

Installation instruction were simple and unit was a breeze to place in window. Best of all it doesn't take up a lot of window space.
Unit is quiet ( hardly hear it ). We use it at night to cool our large bedroom and keep central a/c unit set at a higher temp.

Wanted to love this AC, as I had done hours of research before purchasing, but am disappointed. Followed the recommended sizing guide and system seems too small for our space (bonus room above garage). Makes intermittent rattling noise and freezes up in very humid weather. Beautiful for window AC, but not functioning as advertised.

Great AC unit - efficient but not very well built.

Very efficient - but didn't last that long ... the water pump died after the first season. GE was great about warranty replacement, but the new unit is very loud. It rumbles the wall like a small freight train. The first unit did not do this so I think something may be wrong with the new replacement.

It cools the room fine but makes a rattle noise. Think when compressor is on. So not as quiet as I expected. The midea brand ac I have is quieter.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

If the air conditioner is making a rattling noise, there are several things you can check:
*The front grille may be loose or broken. Remove the grille and inspect it to confirm it is not broken. If it isn't, reinstall the grille. The instructions for removing and reinstalling the grille is in the Owner's Manual. Here is the link:

*Check and clean the air filter. Debris and dirt from the exterior of the air conditioner should be removed.
*The movable louvers are loose or broken. On some models, you can check and adjust the louvers. Consult your Owner's Manual for instructions.
*With window units, improper installation can cause vibration in the window sill. Check the Installation Instructions for proper installation guidelines.
