Great phone for the price

Best blend of high end features

I am a previous Pixel 4a user (and before this, a Samsung S21).
I was comparing this to a Pixel 7a (same price range and target market).
Speed was not a factor as I am not a serious gamer. Speed itself on the Samsung A54 was more than acceptable and wholy adequate. Usability, camera performance, space and customizability were high on my list. I was tired of the lack of customization and relatively lower usability on the Pixel.
The clincher was the Samsung A54 had a longer major OS system update and security updates than the Google Pixel 7a!

Great camera, but...

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My favorite feature of this phone is it's camera. Crisp, clear photos and some cool filters that came on the phone. It's great for capturing landscapes, concerts, group pics, and sporting events. The macro option is not so great.
The texting experience on this phone is terrible, but the phone call capability is even worse. I've tried different texting apps and they all have the same problem, so I can only believe it's a problem with the phone. If I'm part of a group text, I usually will not get all of the texts from the group. Some come through, others don't. Many times, I have to re send a text 3 or 4 times before it goes through. As for calling, 9 times out of 10, my phone either drops the call or I can hear the caller but they can't hear me, or vice versa. Many times, I get an error message that says call cannot be completed. The sound quality of calls is abysmal. Even on speaker the callers voice is muffled.
My phone has been this way since I bought it. I've tried taking it to t mobile numerous times for fixing, but I finally just gave up and live with it because I like the camera.

Rugged phone with great features.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I am a volunteer First Responder and rely heavily on my phone for communications, navigation, and taking on-scene photos and videos. Although battery life could be a little better, it does fairly well considering Active 911, Zello, Google Maps, and other apps are usually running simultaneously. The camera is great for taking photos and videos even in difficult lighting. Except for a few outlying areas, I usually have a good connection for both phone and internet. Bluetooth connection to devices such as a headset has always been reliable. The phone (in a case) has survived many falls, drops, and exposure to less than ideal environments on emergency scenes.
