I’ve read all the reviews

I’ve read all the reviews about the Embr Wave, and I’m happy to report that it does help. How much it helps to reduce hot flashes, however, is truly an individual thing. For me, it doesn’t eliminate them like some users reported, but it definitely lessens their intensity. For that fact, it is worth the price. I can also honestly say that I have had some hot flashes come on that have gone away quickly when I’ve activated the cooling button on-the-spot. I wouldn’t say that it works like that every time, in part because I believe our hot flashes are different and are triggered by different things. Where I find the wave the most effective, is like I shared—when I feel a hot flash coming on and I activate the device. Where I find it the least effective is on sleep mode during the night. I find myself waking with each intense hot flash and when it’s on Sleep Mode, it’s often not running through its cooling cycle yet, so I have to wait. What I’ve decided to do after two weeks, is turn off sleep mode, and each time I wake from a hot flash, I activate it myself for instant cooling. (Since I’m already awake) My main feedback to the creators, however, is that I wish the cooling cycle lasted longer than a few seconds. Lastly, the app is easy to use, clear, modern, and visually appealing. It is well- thought -out because it doesn’t give too many choices and keeps the headings simple. I will be keeping this device because it has given me back some semblance of control over my body. I haven’t mentioned much about insomnia, but I believe this has helped that as well. I go back to sleep easier and haven’t been tossing and turning due to frustration over the hot flashes. So much of menopause seems to also be emotional, so anything which helps put us back in the driver’s seat lessens so much of the accumulation of frustration. I still experience hot flashes, but I can now deal with them and I’m no longer fanning myself or apologizing during a zoom meeting. For that, the Embr Wave is a Godsend.

Lesli, thanks so much for this thoughtful and thorough review! You're so right that hot flashes can often be more complicated and individual than one might think, and the Wave might not work exactly the same way for everyone. We love your approach here and hope that you find (as many others have) that your Wave will work better and better for you over time.

OMG! Relief very quick. I love my wave2 and suffer when I have to wait for charging. It's a scoach bulky but what it does I'll get used to it, no problem. So glad someone finally thought to help us power surge gals. It gets unbearable at times. Now, I got this!

Finish rubbing off

I have had my Wave2 for a week. I wear it all day at work for stress and menopause. Since you wear it on the inside of you wrist/arm it rubs on the counter at work and is rubbing off. Would be nice to have some kind of protective bumper for it or make one in stainless steel

Heidi, you're in luck! We just launched the Embr Wave Comfort Case, and it sounds like it's exactly what you were asking for. Check your email for a message from our support team!

I wanted to give it

I wanted to give it some time to get used to using it before I left a review. Now that I know which settings work for me, I LOVE IT!! I will not use hormones to control the hot flashes I have had for the last 15yrs for health reasons. The Ember Wave has been a life saver for me! It stops my hot flashes before they get uncomfortable! It is a true game changer for me and well worth every penny! A++

Correct positioning of device was key to my success

I have tried everything imaginable to treat my hot flashes with not much luck. My hot flashes are worse when I'm sleeping, and were starting to become a quality of life issue because I was always exhausted from lack of sleep. On a good night my hot flashes wake me up 2-3 times. On a bad night they wake me up 6-8 times. On average though, I was waking up 5 or 6 times a night. I bought the Embr Wave 2 solely to use the continuous function when I am sleeping. After a week and a half of using it, and slowly increasing the intensity to 5, it had not decreased my hot flashes in the least. I was going to send it back. The instructions said to wear it about an inch above your hand, which I did. Then I got an e-mail from the company checking in to see how I was doing. There was a picture in the e-mail and I noticed that the woman in the picture was wearing the device much higher on her arm. It was more on the forearm than by the wrist. So I moved mine up another inch. After a few days I realized that I was sleeping better, and not waking up as much. After a month of use, I am no longer waking up 5+ times a night. I still sometimes wake up 2-3 times with a hot flash, so the device hasn't completely eliminated my night-time hot flashes, but it has decreased them enough that I am getting better, deeper sleep, and I feel more rested and less tired now when I get up. So my advice is that if it is not working for you, try moving it higher up on your arm (2 inches from my wrist works best for me). If I have it fully charged it easily makes it through the night on continuous mode. It is too bulky for me to wear to work, so I haven't tried it for intermittent day-time hot flashes, so can't speak to how it works for those, but I can recommend it for night-time hot flashes. The device itself is well made and heavy-duty, and the magnetic watchband holds well. Over-all I am happy with the purchase and relieved to be getting better sleep.

So far I have not

So far I have not noticed any difference in the cooling ability. Maybe I have not given it enough time, but I am disappointed in the product.

Elizabeth, we’re so sorry to hear things have gotten off to a slow start with your Wave. Everyone is different, and over the years we’ve heard from quite a few users who said it took some time before things started to click and they felt the full effectiveness of the Wave (and that it then worked better and better the longer they used it). We hope that will be the case for you too, so you can get the relief you need. But definitely let us know if there’s anything we can do to help you have a better experience!

Good for occasional use

Overall, I’m more or less happy with my Embr Wave 2. Would I buy it again knowing what I know now? I’m pretty sure that I wouldn’t. Not to say that it’s a bad product or doesn’t work at all because it definitely does take the edge off of my flashes, (which is obviously wonderful). It’s certainly not an instant fix, but they don’t really tout themselves as instant relief. Is it worth the cost though? I’m not convinced that it is.
Design wise, I do like the color options, but I despise the band. I wish that you could select the type of band that you want when you make your initial purchase. I hate the metal band for a number of reasons, they’re uncomfortable, they don’t stay put when you sweat, and I personally find myself readjusting it all of the time. I hated it on my Apple Watch and I hate it on my Embr wave. I would have liked the option to choose a different band option. The website does offer additional bands that you can buy separately, but they’re pricey for a simple band and I wanted to see if I would even like the Embr wave first before investing more money for accessories.
I also feel that it’s pretty bulky. I work at a desk in an office and find that it’s constantly hitting the desk whenever I type or use the mouse on my computer and it’s just downright in the way when I’m writing on a pad of paper or taking notes. I’ve gotten used to it now and just end up moving it around as needed, but it was an annoyance in the beginning and there are a lot of scrapes and scratches on the case now when I haven’t even had it that long.
I honestly thought that this would be something that I wanted to use all of the time, and when I first got it, I did. Now I feel like it almost overheats (the case is warm to the touch) during a simple hot flash cycle, and my battery doesn’t last through the overnight keep me cool function. I usually just take it off when it gets too warm since that more or less defeats the purpose of the cool down. I can feel the cool of the part against my skin, but I can also feel the warmth of the case heating up. But feeling like I need to take it off all the time means that I’m not getting the full benefit that I had hoped for.
So all in all, I’m more or less happy to use it occasionally now, when I feel like I might need it the most. But I also have reservations and will continue to keep my eye on the technology as it evolves in order to upgrade the hardware experience.
The app is designed well and gives you lots of options to personalize your experience. It makes set-up a breeze and helps you to personalize your Embr wave to address your individual needs.
All in all, I’m not sorry that I made the investment, even if I do find it annoying that I would have to purchase additional bands and chargers to make it really work for me. I am excited about where future iterations can go and look forward to what the folks at Embr can do down the road to evolve and improve the technology.

Work in progress

Helps with cooling, but nothing DRAMATIC. Still have to see if it works solely on it's own. Only thing I don't like, it seems I need to keep my phone near by to have it work on a program.
Response from embrwave.comBy April 29, 2022
Thanks for your feedback! Quick note on the app: you only need to connect to the app to while you’re actively browsing or selecting a different session type. Once you’ve selected that session, you don’t need to have your phone nearby or connected to the app while you use your Wave. If you find a favorite session, you can always assign it to one of your Wave’s buttons as a preset, which will let you start that session just by pressing the button — no app needed!
