It generates a lot of heat and I’m not even moving files.

66% more expensive for exFAT format?!?!
on March 19, 2024

This is an example of product marketing gone terribly wrong - for 66% less money just buy the APFS formatted version of this drive, and if you need exFAT format, just format the APFS version to whatever format you want.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

FAILED AFTER A WEEK
on March 29, 2025

Extremely perplexed and frustrated with this product!
I've had other Sandisk SSDs and never had a single issue.
Things to take account for before buying this product:
1) No Native TRIM / Swap Optimization - macOS relies heavily on TRIM commands and swap efficiency
2) The internal SSD is WD_BLACK SN850X designed for Windows gaming, not MacOS.
3) Doesn’t officially support TRIM over Thunderbolt or USB-C on macOS.
4) Controller Not Tuned for Mac’s Virtual Memory System - will lead to mount/eject failures! And Finder freezes.
5) imagine trying to run audio to a project while also running a sample library, system unloads unused cache data to swap - yet you have no TRIM control.
Point number 4 was experienced within the first week of owning this drive. The weirdest thing is that the Sandisk Extreme actually uses a native USB controlled supported by MacOS with TRIM and swap memory support.
I hope this helps any MacOS users.
