Awesome Drive for Windows
on June 7, 2024

No issues on Windows.
I downloaded Knoppix (live Linux DVD) and used Rufus to make a bootable USB drive. Booted from the USB drive to load Knoppix. Launched G-Parted and formatted the APFS drive to NTFS. Drive now recognized in Windows 11. You could also use G-Parted Live as well but I prefer Knoppix.

If you have a Windows machine, don't even bother

I borrowed a Macbook from a friend and reformatted this drive to exFAT, which is compatible with Windows, however my Windows machine still will not recognize the drive. I have spent hours troubleshooting this drive and nothing has worked, even though in the item description they say it will work with a Windows machine if it is reformatted. Instead of offering a refund, customer "support" just wants you to keep troubleshooting, even though nothing they offer will work. What a terrible idea it was to sell this drive out of the box formatted only for MacOS. I wish I could give this product 0 stars.

Slowest drive I own

I can barely say anything good about this SSD because it simply doesn't even hit the speeds it claims. Connected through usb-c I barely get 40mb's read/write I can get it up to 450 mb's after unplugging then plugging it back in but it will again drop. I've never even seen 1000? this was a huge waste of my $$$ MY HDD IS FASTER? how?

Impossible to Reformat for Windows
on December 8, 2023

I honestly can't give a fair review, for the fact that it's impossible to figure out how to reformat the drive for Windows. Plugged it in and the computer doesn't recognize it. Go to WD's support site and none of the the threads are informative or helpful. My Windows OS is fully updated, so there's no issues with that. I can't reformat the drive because, when I follow WD's step by step process, the disk isn't even recognized. I bought the Pro-G40 because my PC is Thunderbolt 3 compatible, and this would offer the best speeds. It's super disappointing that I can't even use the product, because it's not dual compatible out of the box. If you want this for Windows I wouldn't bother. The jumping through hoops is not worth the headache.

Power hungry
on October 11, 2023

It's hard to tell how fast and reliable it could be because it requires 3 amps to run. My laptop doesn't supply that current even when plugged in. A better design would be to have an extra USB port on it so that an external power supply could be connected.

Pricey but worth it

I purchased the 2TB and the 4TB. I used bitlocker on one and kept one unlocked for my Mac. These are the two fastest drives I have ever bought and the build quality is excellent. They feel great in the hand. As everyone else notes, they run quite hot when transferring files. I dont notice excess heat unless I am transferring data. I also have a nice Samsung SSD. It is great but these are much quicker and have a better apparent build quality IMO. The heat has not produced significant transfer speed impacts in my usage but I rarely transfer anything over 100GBs. The only knock is that they are quite pricey but if you have the money, grab one. If you get one that isn't transferring 1 GB/s or better exchange it. Lemons are lemons.
I used this to edit a pretty hefty video, and it never blinked. Everything worked up to speed and I never had any problems with its functionality. It did get a little hot, but that would be expected with the editing I was doing on it. It looks and feels like the quality product that it is.
