[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The laptop is gorgeous.
The display looks amazing.
Keyboard and trackpad feel great.
Price is OK, but it definitely looks and feels premium.
Performance is good.
Doesn't require an enormous charging brick (huge plus).
I would recommend this to a friend!

glitchy and unreliable so far...

I am currently waiting for my replacement to a 7 day old Z16. It rebooted twice on me (randomly) the first day and I've been using it as a secondary computer to my 3 year old Dell since. Despite daily BIOS and windows updates, i've had webcam issues (external webcam displays horizontal scrolling lines), typing fast on the keyboard causes the BIOS to make a weird BEEP sound and more. The freezing mid MS Teams call or in the middle of working on a report is the biggest issue - simply unacceptable for a computer of this caliber.
The tech support (I have premier) had the gall to suggest (on day 2) that I was expecting too much of my new laptop and really needed 32 or 64 GB of RAM to avoid the issues I was having. Considering my 3 year old Dell i7 with 16 GB of RAM had never encountered such overheating and freezing issues, and after seeing the chorus of reviews with the same issues, I pushed back. I am cautiously optimistic that it's a driver and software issue, but if the replacement doesn't work out I'll be back to Dell for a new XPS. Another weird quirk - the webcam. It's a super wide field of view, so if you want your side walls and ceiling to show up on the screen (or maybe you are hosting big gatherings around your laptop) go for it. But, I've found it less than ideal.

Pay to be a beta tester
on February 5, 2023
Posted by: bugreporter123
After several months with this devices, I can say with confidence that it is not ready for general usage. There are so many bugs on this device (I have the UHD OLED model with Ryzen 7). Here is a nonexhaustive list of issues you'll encounter if you decide to pay in order to be a beta tester for Lenovo:
* When closing the lid or even entering sleep mode from the start menu, the laptop refuses to go to sleep. It is very frustrating to see that the power indicator light is still bright and the fans are running at 50%. I know that the bug is going to happen when the fan speed won't change no matter what power setting I set it to. The only fix is to reboot the laptop and hope the bug doesn't come back (it will). I'm thinking that it is a serious bug with the power management system but there's no way to report bugs to Lenovo. Posting this review is my best option for them to notice!
* Animations when doing basic tasks are stuttering. Entering the task view with multiple open windows (5+) makes the animation perform like a netbook. Can the GPU not handle a 4k screen? My older fruit laptop from 2018 has better animations than this, and supposedly that has a much weaker GPU. Did Lenovo knowingly sell a device that can't function properly?
* Dropped frames while watching videos at a high-resolution + high frame-rate. Hovering over the video to look at the controls will cause frame drops. Previewing another tab on the same window will cause frames to drop. Switching desktops will make frames drop. It isn't even limited to YouTube. Watching demo videos on the Dolby Access app has stuttering issues as well. Did anyone test this before releasing it? It's comically bad when the fruit laptop from 2018 has less issues with YouTube than this one.
* Rare (but still happening even after all the BIOS updates claiming it's fixed), the laptop won't wake up from sleep. You will have to hold the power button to force it off and then power it back on. Again, no way to report bugs to Lenovo.
I'm very disappointed in this device. I wish I could return it or swap it for a different Thinkpad or any other device (preferably one that actually works properly).

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] For those who worried whether the smaller size arrow keys can be an issue, it wasn't the case for me. Adapted quickly. Also End button can be swiped with Insert, no worries there as well.
The firmware is not yet polished, look forward for fixes. Mine uefi after erasing fingerprints and switching to text mode is no longer available. After some issues with sporadic reboots and overheating, I ended up disabling both video devices. And it is now somewhat stable. I hope this is a firmware issue. Otherwise this have dire consequences for me as I am out the US at the moment.
Laptop stays pretty cool and silent while Ryzen 9 onboard demonstrates 1471/8709 in Geekbench 5, also SSD shows max read-write speeds as 6.5/5 Gb respectively which to me is fine. Wasn't able to test 6500m, for the above reasons.
