My first Traeger was one of the original Lil'Tex models...finally gave up the ghost after 13 years. That was a fantastic grill and made me a Traeger pellet grill fan ever since. When we were looking for a replacement, we finally settled on the new Ironwood. What an upgrade! Fantastic features like the D2 touchscreen, temp probes that can be monitored in the app (along with grill temperatures), very well laid out cooking area, even easier to maintain (love the ash/grease hopper), good work space with a light, and that smoke and that flavor! Traeger keeps getting it right, and they knocked this one out of the park!

Love it but had a few issues.1. The caster wheels keep falling out the actually fell out during assembly 2. The hub cap on 1 of the wheels arrived broke. Haven’t reached out to Traeger as of yet. Other then those 2 things it’s been great.

Upgraded from the pro 575 and the new features are worth it. Easy ash and grease keg, more shelves, lights when opening the grill, app interface, and insulated lid are just a few of my favorite upgrades.

This is my third Traeger nation grill. I’m excited to have this Ironwood series- the new technology is awesome. It’s easy to clean , it’s double walled however, it takes a little while to get up to the temperature, that’s only drawback. it maybe needs a bigger Filament you know more powerful filament bigger pot so it gets up to temperature quicker for the bigger grills. Otherwise awesome - still same great taste !! good job.

Love my Iron Wood 885 after one year. Note issues.

I have owned the Ironwood 885 one year. It has made me look good over and over. Primary reason I purchased it was to smoke large batches of lake trout and salmon. The smoked fish after a couple smokes is perfect.
I will smoke 20# of chicked quarters at a time. Makes perfect checken for salad, barbecue, enchiladsa, tacos, etc. Same with pork shoulder. Ribs are easy for a beginner to make perfect ribs.
I failed on a flat cut brisket. Overcooked it. I will try again with a 15 pound brisket soon.
Issues I had are minimal and easily correctable by the end user. My meat probe became inaccurate. I do not know for sure when or if it was not right when new. I bought an instant read meat thermometer and will see what traeger might do for me in that regard.
I had a fire cooking wings. I used super smoke at 180 for 45minutes then raised the temp to 375. We noticed that we should turn them all. The smoker was full of wings. We started turning them by removing the top rack. We were nearly done flipping the bottom rack when flames ignite from the drip pan. The temp went up to 900 degrees quickly and shut down the smoker automatically. We surmised the burner was burning full on from having the lid open turning the wings. Flames were reaching to a height even with the open lid. We were cooking under our garage breezway. We salvaged most of the wings. The fire went out quickly as the chicken grease was exhausted and the burner shut down. The burner did come on on its own as the temp subsided. I should have unplugged it. I should have reduced the temp setting way doen before opening the lid that long with the full load of chicken wings grease in the drip pan. Of note the drip pan was properly installed. There was very little grease in the grease catch bucket. I used treager aluminum drip pan covers. Seems there should have been more grease in the grease catch not covering the pan where it can ignite. A heads up to staff and end users.
I will appreciate any assistance getting a new heat project.
I would give 5 stars other than these 2 issues. Love my treager!!!

As a smoker the Ironwood is for you. If you want to use it for any type of grilling don’t buy it. I wish I could go back in time and slap myself for buying it.

Hi, and thanks for your feedback on the Traeger Ironwood. As the original pellet grill maker, Traegers have always been known as primarily being smokers. However, due to the way they are designed, they can still do just about anything that a traditional BBQ grill can do, plus a whole lot more. In addition to grilling up steaks and pork chops, complete with seat marks via the reverse sear method, you can also cook other items that are not usually possible on a regular propane or charcoal grill, including whole turkeys, packer briskets, and large pork butts, as well as less traditional smoker/grill foods, such as pies, casseroles and even smoked chorizo & arugula pesto. Before making a final judgement, take a quick look at the huge assortment of recipes that are available at traeger.com/recipes and see what you’ve been missing all this time. You may never go back to an ordinary BBQ grill again.
