Every Harry Potter fan needs this

This was a Christmas present and it did not disappoint. Each section was a different year and the lights in each car are really cool. It was a big build and I had to put a bigger shelf up for it-but totally worth it!
I would recommend this to a friend!

This train set is certainly visually stunning. A note to the LEGO Group: I have to concur with other reviewers, however; please manufacture a supplemental functional train track, and motorization capabilities that can be retrofitted.

Hot and a miss!

I was so excited for this that I didn't think to read too many of the details. My mistake. It's not motorized at all. And it isn't compatible with normal tracks. Which wouldn't be that bad if you could at least get a set to build more track. This would be amazing around the Christmas tree! But I guess that is why it isn't motorized. With out any more track, it's not going any where any ways.

Very Sad...so close but far away

My biggest issue and it's a big one. I wanted a motorized train to run along side my Lionel Hogworts Express. Very sad. Maybe some day you'll get it right. It's a beautiful set but just mainly for display...mostly. sad sad sad... I love lego. Don't forget...even us old adults like to play....not just look at.

Fun build, but not quite there...

This set is a very fun and challenging build. I'm a huge Lego and Harry Potter fan with all of the HP D2C sets and most regular sets going back a few years. I was excited when they announced this set, but a little frustrated with the price. The set is a fun build, but leaves me wanting more. I love the Hogwarts castle, which is fine even though its in micro scale. My issue with this set is that its minifig scale, but significantly off-scale from all of the other major HP sets. It's awkwardly large. I would have preferred a nicely detailed, but smaller Hogwarts express, similar to the most recent version with a more substantial station build. Also, like others, I'm a little disappointed in the minifigure selection. This is a high price tag with a ton of figures, but none of them really stand out as being particularly special or unique. Would I recommend this set to others? Probably not... the high price tag makes leave me wanting more. I could have been happier saving some money with a simplified the track build.

Good but...

I did put together the Titanic. This item was a bit more challenging, but the end product is awesome. My only complaints are:
Some missing pieces - but I could use pieces from other sets and that worked. Rather than wait for missing pieces, I decided to "customize" my train.
But now I am sitting here with 9 wheels that do not get used anywhere. I have gone through the instruction books and cannot find any reference to these wheels. They are not train wheels because they do not have the flange to keep them on the track. I don't know which is worse missing pieces or too many pieces.
The Lighthouse is next.

A nice change of pace!

A lot of people give this set grief and I do agree with some of them. The dark red pieces in contrast to the previous red is a bummer, and I absolutely loathe stickers in sets, especially when the set is in the triple digit range. However, I greatly appreciate the larger more realistic scale to mini fig size. I just wish we could get more trains, and most importantly, tracks, that match this scale!

A swing and a miss. A flop. Train base didn't fit other tracks. 1/4 of the Brick count is just the track base.
