I loved building this set. It's a really fun build, looks great on the shelf and comes with a great amount of mini figs. I'm not into the train sets so I don't care that this isn't incorporated into that. I enjoyed the build a lot, I did it with my girlfriend and it worked out great as there are a lot of areas where you need to build two of something, so it's easy to both work on the same thing. If you are more into display sets like myself, this is a great set for that!

I am a huge Harry Potter fan and this was a fantastic set. It was incredibly fun to build and has so many neat features from the working train parts to the inclusion of so many parts of the series. It’s a beautiful piece and brings me great joy. I would highly recommend this set to anyone who loves HP and Lego.

Better than you think

This set is fantastic, there's no denying that. It's a gorgeous display model that will be sure to satisfy any harry potter and lego fan. The building experience was great and it's amazing to see all the references to the various movies. While it doesn't run on lego tracks I honestly don't mind it. This set has more value as a display piece than a functional train set. However the platform did seem a last minute and I am disappointed that we didn't get any adult Ron and Hermione minifigires. Lastly the price is way t o o high. But other than that I think these set is really nice and gets hated on a little too much

Amazing detail but misses the mark

The detail in this set is fantastic. It size is incredible but it misses the mark. They didn't take into any account on someone wanting to motorized this. The wheels are solid on the cars and don't pivot like real trains do. The train track build is a lot of the piece count and price which could have been done without or minimized. The station though I get the thought is underwhelming. And how can you leave out 2 main characters for the mini-fig. Older Ron and Hermione. Such potential with such a beautiful train but it misses the mark.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Nice Set

Very well designed and fun to build. Lots of detail like arm rests fold up in the passenger coach. A little disappointed that Lego did not produce wheels specifically for the the front of the locomotive, tender and coach. Instead they used wheels from another Lego train set. So you wind up 27 wheels of which only 18 are used in the build. You’ll have 9 left over. These wheels are locomotive drive wheels, so they have a counter weight and extra hole. For all the detail, Lego should have made proper wheels for this application.

Why lego? Why?

This set does look good as a *cough* FIVE HUNDRED DOLLAR display piece, I can’t deny - but the fact that it is so oversized, not track compatible, etc. is so irredeemably disappointing. This set comes with many minifigures but for what reason? The train is practically the height of a 2 story building compared to them. Even custom modifications can’t save that aspect. My worry now is that if this set does poorly, future train sets may be questioned due to falsely perceived lack of interest.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
