Building this coaster was fun. Great detail in the loading station, track support throughout and mechanics behind the elevator-pulley system. The string for the pulley system counterweight and plastic-link chain for elevator require minor adjustments throughout play but its still great fun. Always involve my kids (4 & 7) with Lego sets and this set is durable. If you enjoy roller coasters, this is a must have. Only con is we wish the set was larger.

4.5 stars, lots of fun but a bit finicky

I love any Lego set with significant mechanical components, so when I saw this set, I knew I'd buy it. The set looks amazing, with great blue/yellow color scheme and thoughtful details. The overall build is very fun, and even the tall tower was enjoyable since it had enough variation to not get boring. My gripes come from slightly inconsistent operation: on rare occasion, the cars get stuck between the track at the top of the elevator and the elevator itself. This only seems to happen if you crank the set slowly, and should be fixed if it's motorized and run quicker, but it felt like tolerances could've been tighter. It'd also be nice to have a few more mechanical elements to play with, but I appreciate the design feat of having one crank seamlessly control the entire ride. Overall, 4.5 stars, a new favorite!

Great looking coaster, but weak and unstable structures, cart transfer to the top rail sometimes get stuck, they should make the build stronger and some are look’s unfinished.

Amazing set!

This set makes for a great display piece and would reccomend to any Lego builder. I’ve read many people complain about how the counterweight will mess up and the lift won’t go all the way down, however, there is a very easy fix. To avoid it don’t pull on the lift or counterweight. If it needs fixing, rewind the string on the counterweight so it’s back to the height it’s supposed to be as said in the instructions

Missing ride mechanic

Worked flawlessly at first, but after not even an hour of operation over 2 months, everything is out of whack and nothing works. Should come with a maintenance manual or something.

Great… when it works.

The main selling point of this set is obviously its mechanic to lift coaster carts all the way up the drop, and have it loop back around and repeat seamlessly. I absolutely love this when it actually works. I’ve rebuilt whole sections and have checked over instructions multiple times but even then the carts will occasionally get stuck at the top. I’d say maybe 80% of the time it works flawlessly, otherwise the carts end up getting stuck at the top; as in they aren’t able to fully transition from the lift to the rest of the coaster at the top. Again, i’ve checked over the build a ridiculous amount of times so I know for certain I haven’t built anything wrong but even then the mechanism just doesn’t work nearly as well as it should. $400 for something to maybe work is actually disgusting. I’m not alone in this either, others online are complaining about alignment issues at the top. As for my issue it seems like a lack of polish of the design itself as it appears to be perfectly aligned, it’s just the mechanism itself is sloppy and unreliable. First Lego purchase that I can honestly say i’ve regretted. Pretty disappointed:(

INSPIRING!

I recently got into Lego and thought I would get into modular buildings. But THIS THING! I am inspired to build Brick Flags amusement park. This coaster features an elevator lift, VERTICAL DROP and two loops! What more can you ask for from one coaster?
Critique of the set: there were a few places where 2x2 plates were used when I think they should have used inverted tiles. In some places I also think flame yellowish-orange pieces should have been used too.
From the coaster fan in me: I would like to see additional trains, but the elevator lift time to return to station makes 2-train operation a challenge even with its three block zones. I am contemplating adding a holding brake at the top of the drop. The end-course drive wheel can also be made into a brake which would add yet another block zone before the station block zone.
What I’d like to see next from Lego: A corkscrew or a launch coaster. A log flume would be nice too.
Bottom Line: I like how they included extra track pieces in the station and counterweight, perfect for making custom designs. This set introduces several new pieces, so I hope some are introduced in upcoming sets in new colors. I’d like to build a wild mouse coaster and launch coaster. Until then, custom designs will have flame yellowish-orange track to make use of the new pieces.

I built two of these and added motors to both. I'm surprised by the negative complaints. The coaster is awesome and fantastic. If yours doesn't work properly, I think you built it wrong. As you can see, I added lights to this one!
