So satisfying!

It’s the most satisfying build I’ve done, mostly because it’s still hard to believe that it actually works.

Amazing Set
on March 29, 2024
Posted by: dmatter
This was my introduction to the fairgrounds sets - I was convinced to buy it after watching some videos of the lift mechanism. The entire set is a triumph - I built it on a modified MILS plate, it takes up a full 3 baseplates (96x32 studs) and had zero issues with tuning the lift mechanism. We've noticed that if the tower flexes or moves when we're moving the set, the mechanism will get a bit rough, and then if we just push the tower down to that all the verticals are ... well, perfectly vertical, then the issues go away.
From a play perspective - we built this as a family while my kids were 3 and 5, and they had a TON of fun playing with it all through the build. There's tons of simple mini-builds that even my 3yo could do, and the way the track is built in stages allowed them to run cars (and shoot them across the room) from very early in the build.
This is the one set that we'll probably never take down - it's the first set my kiddos still run to show any friends that come over. Even after getting several other fairground sets, this one still stands out - the entire mechanism running off a single axel is... incredible. I wish they'd go back and redesign the Haunted House ride with this drop-system, it's that good.

Hopes were not met

This build is visually amazing and as an avid collector I was so excited to build this. Sadly, I was left disappointed and wish I had picked another set. The engineering is great in theory but after 2 hours of troubleshooting, I still can't get many parts of this set to function. Additionally, a lot of the crucial elements to this set are being held together by few pieces. I wish LEGO had put more supports in for more essential elements instead of abandoning flimsy technology to focus on decor. Overall, really upset and as an expert builder who saved up a while for this set, I wish I could have a refund. I'm so upset :(

Missing pieces
on July 14, 2024

3 missing pieces, one pin cause the tracks to fell apart. The carts didn’t do the double loop, only went through one loop. The crank didn’t work. 😥

Awesome except for the cart
on August 7, 2024

Awesome set, once I got it to work it was great. The problem is that the carts that came with the set were just too small for the wheels so that they rubbed against the side, making it so the cart got stuck at the first loop. I was able to use a knife and widdle away enough plastic so that the wheels spun freely, and the cart worked as intended. Really strange that this happened, but hopefully it was just a batch issue and not anything more.

love the detail; inconsistent play experience
on August 20, 2024

first of all, this thing is MASSIVE. you need to have a place for it, and i’d honestly advise building it where you want it to be displayed because it is … sensitive to changing locations (a bit like humans, i guess 😂).
i love the detail on this set. the path, the bench, the signs, the action photos - all awesome. so were the ancillary sets, which were fun and thoughtful. we also loved the colors, but that’s our personal preference - luckily you can see the colors easily online before you buy to figure out if they’re for you.
i admit there is inconsistency with play, like others have noted. the chain constantly breaks (abt every three or four ascents) and the car often lines up a bit short of the top track each time we fix the chain. finally, the cars typically come to rest just shy of the boarding area. in spite of this stuff, it’s still great, it just gets played with less often. aesthetically, i see why folks have said that some of the technic could have been hidden, but i think most real life coasters DO have exposed supports, motors, gears, etc. the last thing we noticed is that the kid that’s included is too short to ride the coaster by themself, according to the signage, but that was an amusing detail for us more than anything.
we always get a huge response from visitors when they see it. everyone wants to play! great set, and be ready for the footprint. it’s a big one!
