excellent small grill

I have been grilling over charcoal year round for over 60 yrs all of that time with a kettle style grill. I bought the Kettleman to replace the brand I had used all of those years because it cost less. What a wonderful surprise! I like this grill more than any other I've used and now have two, one for summer use in MN and the other for home is SC. It uses much less charcoal but does flair up if the meat or fish is fatty. I won't try brisket because I don't believe this unit controls the intake air adequately and there is an opening at the back of the cover which vents the exhaust thus making low temp cooking iffy. I still recommend this unit.

Great Grill And The Best Customer Service!

I bought this prior to Memorial day and was impressed with the price and the packaging. Setup was easy for one person, and I have grilled and smoked many times in a few short weeks. Temps are consistent, searing is amazing, food is moist, and I am getting 7 hours of 250 deg burns using charcoal in the snake method as described in the manual. I have smoked 24 lbs of pork in 3 sessions all to great satisfaction. Additionally a few small concerns I had were handled by customer service in amazing speed with what I consider above and beyond service. I have owned 4 Charbroil grills, this is the best charcoal grill I have ever owned, and the only brand I would ever consider purchasing. Keep up the quality products and the quality customer service, it is appreciated!

I bought my grill about a year ago because I moved into a community that you don't wanna put a gas grill on lanai. It took a few times testing different foods but once you get the hang of it it cooks food amazingly. This was one of the Best Buy's I bought a long time for a grill. Even if I did not have to have electric grill my next choice would be one.

Good grill for the price

Overall this is a pretty good to above average Kettle grill for the price.. Seems to be pretty durable so far. Bought it last year and only grilled on it maybe a dozen times.This grill can get pretty hot when cooking, so keep a cool zone. Like it mentioned you don't have to use as many coals since it disperses the heat pretty evenly. Flair ups are minimal, which is good. I am going to try and smoke on it at some point to see how that will work. The only down fall I would say is that the cooking grate is not that easy to clean. I have taken a few wire brushes of different styles to get between the grates....takes a little bit of work. Not sure how long the grate will last given this issue and it looks like it has started to bow from being cleaned. So the integrity of it might be in question.
I had a just your basic 22inch Weber Kettle before which was very solid for many years but finally bit the dust. It had tons of grill miles on it, so it was to be expected at some point. So I saw the end coming and needed a back up so I purchased this. The Kelltlemen is a good grill for the price. We will see the durability over the long haul and where it will stand in a few years compared to the Weber.

Kettleman review

Did my first cook on the Kettleman last night. This is my honest opinion.
Construction: I am very impressed with the quality of the materials that the Kettleman is made out of. The grill has a good weight to it, and feels solid once it is put together. Impressed and exceeded expectations.
Assembly: Very easy....took about 30 minutes.
Design: I love the hinged lid. Controlling the temps will take some time to get used to but I think I'm going to like the setup. The verdict is till out on how the ash tray system will hold up, but it is easy.
Cooking experience: My first cooking experience was good. Controlling the temps is trial and error until I get used to it.
Suggestions: There needs to be a way to add more charcoal without having to take the grill grate totally off of the grill. I would love to see more accessories for this grill to compete with other kettle grills.
I would recommend this to a friend!

My wife gave this grill to me for Fathers day and I've been extremely happy with it. I cook on it about 4-5 times a week! I also have a few other grills, one of which is a Weber Kettle Silver. Now that i have this one, I rarely use the Weber. The Kettleman really makes it easy for me.
Once I was able to learn how much charcoal I needed to use for various cooks and how to arrange them, it couldn't be much easier to grill great food. Its a very different set up when compared to the Weber kettle. There is just one vent to worry about, and it works in the opposite fashion of other grills. If you want to lower the temp, open the vent, and if you want to keep the heat in, close the vent. It has several air holes around the grill for maximum air flow . How hot it can get really depends on the amount of charcoal you put in and the arrangement of them. Some reviewers have stated that they couldn't control the temperature with the vent , but I haven't found that to be the case. Maybe that's because I've used it so much until its second nature.
The next big feature is the grill grate. Flare ups are pretty much a thing of the past. Burgers and chicken are notorious for causing flare-ups and subsequently burning, but the v-shape of the grates protect the food.
i have found that i don't need to use as much charcoal on the Kettleman as i do other grills, since the charcoal grate is very close to grill grate. This makes searing steaks super easy. One caveat, if there is one is that you're not able to shut it down and snuff out the coals like you can on a weber and save them for the next cook. However, since it uses less charcoal to begin with, I think it evens out. And my preference is to start a cook with fresh charcoal instead of leftover "stale" ones.
I totally recommend this grill.

Disappointing

I have been unable to regulate heat. Watched every video and review I could find and have tried multiple techniques. A flare up burned the tab off the air vents and melted plastic all over the front of the grill searing the paint. Worst grilling experience ever.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
