I haven't had these pillows long enough to be sure they won't go flat or lumpy sooner than I would like, but so far, so good. As far as firmness/softness, shape, et cetera, they're perfect for me.
It's a very average pillow for the price. Any local retailer is going to have similar quality at lower cost. There is nothing remarkable about it.

Way too crackly and a bit too firm for me but it is what it is. Thses would be so much better with a cotton fabric cover on them
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I bought a down alternative pillow set that arrived about a week ago. Something spilled on one of the pillows requiring me to try to wash it. I balanced it in the washer with another pillow and towles between the pillows. The Tuft & Needle pillow became so waterlogged that it stopped my machine during the spin cycle. It weighed maybe 25-30 pounds. It was too much for my machine, so I had my son come over to give at a try in his washer. The water didn't come out in his spin cycle, either. He had to push the water out manually. It was very difficult to get any of it to come out, but he worked on it and then tried drying it. It took multiple cycles to get any water to evapoarate out of it. He's been drying it periodically for three days and it's still damp. Now I have it and I'm trying to dry it. It's a decent pillow, but not worth the trouble.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Hi Nancy, thank you for sharing your experience with us, we're sorry for any inconvenience or frustration this may have caused. You had the right idea in washing the pillows but we do not recommend washing them alongside other dense and heavy objects such as towels or other pillows. This can cause it to be waterlogged and difficult to dry. Moving forward wash in cold water with mild detergent, and tumble dry on the lowest heat. For maximum loft, dry with dryer balls or clean tennis balls. If desired, the pillow can be professionally dry-cleaned as well. Of course, if you are within your 100-Night Sleep Trial and wish to just return your pillow, feel free to reach out to us at 877-842-2586 or support@tuftandneedle.com and we can guide you from there. Thank you again for your insight, and let us know if we can assist moving forward!
