When I received it, it had a tad bit of a chemical smell - and to be honest, it feels the same "firmness" as them address... Just an added "pillow" essentially.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

The topper is definitely soft enough, but it heats-up, which might be nice in the winter, but not so much in the summer time. We have the T&N queen size bed and absolutley love it, but the topper feels a little too much like sleeping on a piece of foam rubber. Not too comfortable, in our opinion. Don't get me wrong, my wife and I LOVE T&N, and plan on getting another T&N mattress when the one we currently have wears out :)... we just weren't fans of the topper.

Had to remove the cover to keep the pad from sliding off of my Tuft & Needle mattress. Still has mild odor after 3 weeks. Otherwise, it's a good mattress pad. I would recommend it.

When I first put this on top of the mattress, it was great but after a few nights the topper shifts and starts to buckle or bubble underneath the zip-on cover, which is a pain to try and straighten out when this happens. It would be nice if the topper had straps that you could put under each of the four corners of your mattress versus it being zipped up in a separate cover.
