So far it is surpassing our expectations and we wish we had switched to an Induction cooktop sooner. The Induction cooktop makes the old electric top look like something from the past and not the future.
It’s been a month since install, and so far, I’m loving it! During the 6 weeks without a cooktop during our remodel, I realized how much of my meal prep is on this appliance. We switched to this after 15 years with a gas cooktop. I was a bit nervous, but we went for it. So far, so good. The only pan I had to replace was a cheap non-stick frying pan, as all the others are stainless steel. I’d heard about the fast boiling water - it’s true. Without a lid on the pot (so I could watch it), 8 cups of cold water were at a big bubbling boil in 8 minutes at about 3/4 power! In a nutshell, it’s an electric cooktop that cooks like a gas one. The clicking noise while it’s on medium-high is taking some getting used to, but t doesn’t other me. One major thing to note - if you have a family member or friend with a pace maker, they can not be near the appliance while it’s on.
This has been installed for >1 day, however we are very pleased with its performance so far. I use cast iron/carbon steel cookware and I have 1 All-clad frying pan. Everything works great. It is very quiet and efficient with this cookware. A major improvement over my old GE Profile propane cooktop (I can actually clean this and don’t need to worry about combustion gases in the house or other safety issues). I have to experiment more with my Baking Steel Skinny Griddle on the synced elements. I did one test and it got quite hot, and the heat was well distributed after a slow ramp up from low-med-high over about 15 minutes. I was worried about this cookware warping to cracking from heating too quickly in a small area relative to its overall size. That remains to be seen, but I’m optimistic. The griddle lives on our stove and we use it everyday for nearly every meal, so it’s continued functionality on this cooktop will rule.
I already hate this cooktop. I'm replacing a 14 year old GE cooktop that I love but can't justify spending more money on circuit boards. I would switch brands but they require me to modify my granite countertop cutout. This unit did not fit the cutout without replacing 2 hex screws (loose!) with smaller head screws. I really dislike the controls. They are very hard to use and don't take inputs easily. We'll see how it cooks.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Hello,
Thanks so much for connecting with us. We appreciate the feedback regarding your new cooktop and we're so very sorry to hear you're not pleased with your unit. At GE Appliances, we're always looking for ways to improve when it comes to function and design. Your comments are extremely important and will be considered by our product design team. We're so glad you chose to share your experience with us. Thanks again.
Purchased this new version after our first one 'exploded' due to leaving a hot lid down on the cooktop. It suctioned so hard it destroyed the glass. Not the fault of the product. We loved the first GE Profile induction, that we needed to get a similar replacement. this one works just as well as the first. Won't make that mistake ever again. We are very pleased with the performance of these cooktops.
