Upgraded my decade old Baratza for the Gen 2 with upgraded burrs. Wow is all I can say. The footprint of the device is a little "deeper" ie back to front, but it's got a beautiful low profile and it's also much quieter. One other positive is that its very neat and tidy ... have yet to spill any coffee grounds pulling the hopper out.
I just upgraded my Ode Brew Grinder Gen 1 with a Gen 2 + upgraded burrs. The grind itself is better across all of the different settings I've tried, but it is noticeably noisier than my Gen 1, which I wasn't expecting. There is a high pitched whirring during the grind which is annoying to me. It's also new, so maybe that sound will fade with wear. In the end it's about the grind, and this upgrade impressed.
On the advice of an online group which discusses coffee grinders, I ordered the FELLOW Ode 2 grinder in black, after much research into its capabilities, quality of manufacture and reviews. This grinder was a gift for my husband, who is the coffee drinker in the family. He used an antique hand grinder for many years, but it was time to modernize. He was looking for a grinder specifically designed for small quantities of coffee, easily operable, and one that was built solidly, preferably metal, not plastic. FELLOW Ode 2 is all that and more. It is a solid, fabulous machine, beautifully designed for functionality and looks. It is easy to operate, with intuitive graphics, buttons and an easy-to-adjust dial. It also has a very cool feature with a magnet in the base which centers the receiving container perfectly, preventing the mess of ground coffee all over your counter. And, of course, the burrs. A feat of engineering - the grind is even, perfect, and easy to adjust. A relatively quiet, superb machine. Well worth the price, shipped promptly in a very secure packaging.
Great so far. I’ve made aeropress and pourovers with good results, good clear coffee. I’m not seeing a ton of fines, but I am seeing some larger chunks that are escaping from the grinder. I don’t think this is impacting my coffee too much. Absolutely beautiful on the counter. The plastic lid on the grounds catcher is rather loose, and it sits kind of funny.
