Constantly Failing
on October 11, 2025

I had the first version of the ode brew for years and I loved it. Never had any issues other than occasionally needing to encourage the beans to go down the hopper.
I’ve been a raving fan.
So, when the new grinder came out I decided to regift the one I had that was working like a champ and support the company to keep making great things!
Boy, have I been disappointed. It constantly fails to grind the beans. The settings feel way more janky and inconsistent. The song of this machine giving up plays on repeat while I have to fiddle with it to do its basic job. Grind. The. Beans.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Ode Gen 2

I was a hand / manual grinder for years. And not a good quality grinder either. I'd been fed up for a long time, but couldn't decide on or pull the trigger on an electric grinder especially something that was quality. But I took the plunge after watching numerous video reviews on the Ode Gen 2. So happy I made the purchase. Arrived double boxed in perfect condition. This grinder is super solid, works perfect out of the box. Having never had a decent grinder I was blown away at how good and different the coffee tasted with a great grinder. Thanks Fellow, your hard work has made my mornings much easier and my coffee WAAAAY better.

The SSP burrs make an unpleasant screeching noise that I understand to be "normal". I wish I had not upgraded the burrs since apparently the standard Ode 2 burrs are quieter but otherwise happy.

Jamming

It jammed. It never worked without jamming. We would run it and within 10 seconds it jammed. 20-60 min to clear the jam and it jammed again immediately.

Extra cost burrs installed backwards.

SSP MP burrs, for which I paid premium fee, were installed backwards (one designed for "fixed" placement on spinning auger.) Per reports on Reddit, this problem is wide-spread. Also, the setting drifts - the burs move from set placement while it operates. Parts are flimsy.

Ode (gen 2) review

Looks great (5 *), Operation poor (3 *). I love that the hopper size is great for 3 cups of pour-over. Operated well for the first few days, then jammed during a grinding (setting between 3 and 4) for a pour-over. I followed the instructions on the Fellow Youtube video, unplugged, shokk, bumped sides, put the dial to 11, ground again (failed), removed the auger/burr and cleaned everything, but I could not figure out the reason why that didn't work. After putting it back together and trying the grind again it jammed... finally I realized that the hole at the bottom from which the ground beans come out, was jammed with a half ground bean and other grounds. Once I cleaned that out, and put back the unit, it worked again and has been since then.
There still are times when I can feel a resistance to the dial when I move it towards 1. I have to bump the sides of the grinder to loosen the grounds in the burrs and then it works smoothly...
The Ode grinder works great, but having it jam on coffee beans that are just fine in my hand grinder, is not good. I do not want to have to open up the grinder every month just for this type of unclogging/cleaning.

Great Grinder!

I never owned the gen 1 but I researched it before I purchased the Gen2 and I can say that it has none of the problems that the Gen1 may have had. I've been using it for a couple of weeks now, and countertop is totally clean after grinding, and the hopper is empty . It has two small fins on the inside of the cup witch I do not use. All in all, this grinder is efficient, exudes quality and style, and feels like it will last forever. Overall I love it!
Recently purchased this grinder, and have used it almost every day since purchased. I use it mostly for drip coffee with Moccamaster and pour-overs. I watched a lot of videos and read a lot of reviews before purchasing so was aware of minor issues/annoyances. It is well made, very sturdy. Issues are as most others have noted-- beans have jammed, but easily cleared by following instructions; do not like the wings on the grinds cup as they don't really work as designed, should just remove them; do not the placement of the on/off button, as it is easily inadvertently turned on in current location (should be on side or top); and agree on the too large plug, should have flat space-saver plug similar to the Moccamaster. Aside from the noted annoyances, it does provide a good grind. I could taste the difference in the coffee immediately. Overall, very happy with my purchase, looking forward to Gen 3. As a side note on Gen 3-- please just fix annoyances, don't overdesign.
