Where did all the mess go?

(Comparing to Gen 1 grinder)
- Wayyyy less mess. Almost no chaff whatsoever, that anti-static technology really works. Gen 2 without RDT has noticeably less chaff (none?) than Gen 1 with RDT. I haven’t even grinding with RDT, Gen 2 simply doesn’t need it.
- The cap that goes on the catch can is also better. That previous one never quite seemed to fit 100%. The new one is easier to get right the first time.
- Yeah the bean capacity increased in the hopper and catch can, but I didn’t really need that. Other than that, pretty much the same.
Compared to the SSP burrs, the Gen 2 burrs seem to produce similar coffee, at least to an average coffee drinker like me.

Sleek, compact design. Super quiet-surprisingly so. Grind thusfar has been incredibly consistent whether grinding for 4 cups of coffee or 12.

Disappointment...

The grinder was quiet, solid, eye-catching, and consistent in grind quality. HOWEVER, the grounds that come out at the highest setting (11) were too small for French press! I tried multiple cups with varying amounts of bean, and couldn't get coffee to come out tasting remotely drinkable. I don't understand how this could be when it was advertised specifically for French press and pour overs. What a disappointment!

No much to say but so far this is an excellent product. This is my first burr grinder and I opted for the Ode Brew due to research and size of the unit.
Price may be on the high side but you may be able to justify if you brew every day and you want perfection on the grinds each time.

Grinder jammed on the first
on December 28, 2022

Grinder jammed on the first use and started running erratically. Had to open it up and clean it out (and no, I wasn’t grinding anything other than coffee beans). Not what I expected from the Gen 2 Ode.

Exceeded Expectations

I was originally considering the Gen 2 burrs for body and sweetness, but the SSP have been amazing and more than I could have asked for. Low retention. Not as noisy as I expected. Great clarity and capable of very fine settings after seasoning/ calibration. Generally prefer to use it for pour over and aeropress.

mostly love

I love the form factor here - it's a sexy bit of machinery. I can't speak to the endurance of the extra fancy blades, but i'm guessing they will last at least 10 years. Grind is loud but fast. As far as the couple of things i would have liked to see: a container to store some beans rather than having to scoop individual day's worth and a dial to set amount of grind. The attempt to create a vessel that will streamline the grind (so it doesn't spill or dust) doesn't work well when a full load is ground (i use this for my cold brew). But it works very well with smaller amounts. I'm still working out my little details with the grain size i want to grind-but it's nice to have options. I did notice a lack of espresso grind, though (not a problem for me) which might deter some people. So far it is cleaner than my capresso that ended up with rusted blades after 10 years but served me well. I am hoping these new fangled blades will be protected from a similar fate in damp climates.
