Disappointment...
on December 29, 2022

The grinder was quiet, solid, eye-catching, and consistent in grind quality. HOWEVER, the grounds that come out at the highest setting (11) were too small for French press! I tried multiple cups with varying amounts of bean, and couldn't get coffee to come out tasting remotely drinkable. I don't understand how this could be when it was advertised specifically for French press and pour overs. What a disappointment!

No much to say but so far this is an excellent product. This is my first burr grinder and I opted for the Ode Brew due to research and size of the unit.
Price may be on the high side but you may be able to justify if you brew every day and you want perfection on the grinds each time.

Grinder jammed on the first

Grinder jammed on the first use and started running erratically. Had to open it up and clean it out (and no, I wasn’t grinding anything other than coffee beans). Not what I expected from the Gen 2 Ode.

Exceeded Expectations

I was originally considering the Gen 2 burrs for body and sweetness, but the SSP have been amazing and more than I could have asked for. Low retention. Not as noisy as I expected. Great clarity and capable of very fine settings after seasoning/ calibration. Generally prefer to use it for pour over and aeropress.

mostly love

I love the form factor here - it's a sexy bit of machinery. I can't speak to the endurance of the extra fancy blades, but i'm guessing they will last at least 10 years. Grind is loud but fast. As far as the couple of things i would have liked to see: a container to store some beans rather than having to scoop individual day's worth and a dial to set amount of grind. The attempt to create a vessel that will streamline the grind (so it doesn't spill or dust) doesn't work well when a full load is ground (i use this for my cold brew). But it works very well with smaller amounts. I'm still working out my little details with the grain size i want to grind-but it's nice to have options. I did notice a lack of espresso grind, though (not a problem for me) which might deter some people. So far it is cleaner than my capresso that ended up with rusted blades after 10 years but served me well. I am hoping these new fangled blades will be protected from a similar fate in damp climates.

Great quality grinder and very reasonably priced. Workflow is really easy and leaves no mess. Looks great on my counter. Would love to see some options for wood accents in the future.

Large improvement on grind size

Didn't know how important grind consistency was to a cup of coffee. The extraction is able to be dialed in exactly where you want it. So much easier than the small bean blenders and less clean up for sure. No issues with the loading hopper and the cup is easy to pour out.
If I had to mark something as a negative is the front faceplate has a slight rattle when we walk by and the counter vibrates slightly. Might try and put a sticker behind it in the right spot.
Overall, wonderful and quick to use. Better prep and cleanup time and an improved coffee or cold brew.

Excellent Grinder with no mess!

I purchased the Ode Gen 2 after watching several reviews praising its no-mess anti-static system, as well as improved flat burrs. The Ode Gen 2 produces a marvelously clean cup for the price range, and the ionizing anti-static system keeps retention low and the grounds free of cling. No need for RDT here! My one and only gripe with the Ode would be the grind ranges printed on the reverse side of the hopper cover. I'm currently brewing a Medium-Light roast, (61/49 Colortrack), and am way past the "Pour-Over" range. To get a 3:30 brew without underextraction notes, I'm grinding on number 2. The Pour-Over range suggests 4 as the lowest setting. This is a bit misleading and wasteful, as I took the suggestion at its word and had to work my way down. Lighter roasts need a significantly finer grind than is suggested. Fellow, if I may add a request for future manufacturing runs of the Ode Gen 2 and Hopper Cover, or even a few lines to the manual. Add a disclaimer for the roast level of the coffee that the range is suggested for. "*Grind ranges for medium roasted coffees" Then add a quick "For lighter roasted coffees, you may need to grind up to 2 whole numbers finer than suggested. And for darker roasted coffees, up to 2 numbers coarser". I believe this will help users get started faster and have less hassle and unpleasant brews due to under/over extraction from following the guideline.
