Not what I thought

I thought it was a kettle to heat hot water. I did not realize it was a coffee pot. The free cup is nice but tiny even for a mug of tea.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

This kettle is gorgeous, but it comes at the cost of functionality. Since the kettle has a wide base and narrows at the top you have to pour the water very slowly or else it spills out of the lid. It has all the same functionality of my previous, much cheaper kettle, but can’t handle a full-speed pour. Otherwise it works much the same as other cheaper electric kettles. When you pay for this baby, you’re shelling out for esthetics. Not necessarily a bad thing, but go in knowing what you’re buying.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

After my last gooseneck kettle finally died I decided to splurge. The Fellow is unequivocally worse at actually being a kettle than much cheaper options. It boils more slowly. The chime is too quiet so you can’t hear it from the other room, yet it goes off every time it reaches temperature so it chimes every time you do a pour and place it back on the base. The materials on the studio version don’t feel nearly as premium as they should. The metal dial and glass top both feel like plastic and far cheaper than the price tag suggests. Even the pouring spout doesn’t work well. It puts fine until unless you go slightly too steep an angle (coincidentally the exact angle the handle suggests you pour at) — then the flow completely breaks and it spatters hot water everywhere, splashing you coffee out of your V60 and staining your work shirt. It’s ok overall, and obviously looks nice from afar. But for this price I expected all of these details to be done right. Very disappointed.
