The engineering that went into this is excellent, and the performance can be great for those needing a dual-boiler system. I highly recommend getting a water tester to check mineral density, and try and maintain around 50 PPM so you don't end up with a lot of mineral scaling (you might thank me later,) and do a mild descale periodically especially if you leave the unit continually operating throughout the week. Any issues that occur with an espresso machine such as this can often have preventive measures to ensure longevity of the unit.
Excellent once you invest the time to get it right

The best features of this machine is also it's main drawback. I got the dual boiler as I upgraded from a low end Breville machine that makes excellent espresso. My though was that if I get the top of the line machine, the coffee it makes will be far superior. I was wrong... After setting the machine according to the instructions, I put some coffee grounds in the porta filter and "eye-balled" the amount, as I did on the old machine. The first shot was terrible. Same happened with the next few shots. I was very disappointed and regretted spending so much money on a machine I thought would be far superior. But instead of giving up and sending it back, I started watching YouTube videos and started dialing it in. Last weekend I made the "perfect" macchiato. It took time, patience and investment in a good grinder, a scale, and other accessories. My point is that the machine is wonderful. It is very flexible and it will deliver a great drink, but you will have to be patient and invest some time to get it just right. Breville has some generic videos to help guide us, but I wish there were more detailed "recipes" to get that perfect drink.
The machine is very easy to use, getting great coffee and latte doesn't require too much work or practice. The quality of the materials seems to be very good. I really love the fact you can program the start time.
This machine has really made our mornings easier. The automatic timer has the water piping hot when I get up. Extra water can be added from the front of the unit with ease without pulling the unit out from underneath the cabinets. The water level indicator is clearly seen from the front and doesn’t empty nearly as fast as our previous unit. Dialing in the grind digitally, really simplifies going from one to two shots.
We love our Breville Dual Boiler. It makes delicious espresso and lattes and with the combo of a good grinder, it is heaven on earth! It means a lot to my husband and me to have a lovely latte one to two times per day and we are grateful to Breville for their excellent products and support. Each time there has been a problem they have excelled in their service. Thank you Breville for everything related to our espressos, and also we have a Breville convection oven that we really like a lot!
