First time owner of any espresso machine. While there was a short learning process and a little hiccup with the startup, I absolutely love this machine and look forward to making my latte every morning. My husband is a regular coffee drinker and has been enjoying the americano. Even with the automation, it makes me feel like I'm a barista.
We’ve had this about a month and love it. This is our first espresso machine. Easy to use. Watched a few YouTube videos that were helpful. Large water storage tank is awesome. Love the auto bean grinder and tamper. Would recommend to change the water tray frequently if you steam milk, so it doesn’t stagnate in the catcher tray. We found the Califia brand oat milk gives the best foam if you are looking for non dairy options.
I've used a variety of machines and this one is a great combination of many other machines' excellent features. Grinder is solid, pulls a great shot, milk frothing is excellent, and auto tamp means no mess. Excellent machine!
This is a fun machine to use once you figure out how to use it and not over complicate things. In spite of many reviews that claim the cleaning process is onerous, I actually find it easier that my 10 year old DeLonghi. I have owned this machine for about 6 weeks and the only complaint I have is the taste of the expresso shot. I have found the expresso tastes very bitter, at least using dark roast beans. I recently tried a blond roast which eliminated a lot of the bitter taste. The one thing that Breville recommends is to use freshly roasted beans, which where I live in East Tennessee, has been impossible to find. I believe a successful great tasting shot is a product of a good coffee bean which I will continue to look for in my area. Also, I would suggest purchasing the larger Knock Box as the one that comes with the machine is quite small.
Had this machine for almost two months. Appears to work as advertised, but some of the recommended settings don't quite match operation. For instance, the recommended preset for ground coarseness is 30 on a scale of 1-45, where 1 is fine and 45 course. However I'm having to set it on 20 to get the extraction results that is described in the product manual as the "correct" espresso consistency. Not sure why and I'm guessing it's no big deal. My machine is tucked under a cabinet with about one inch clearance, so it would be nice if the bean hopper was either backlit like the water tank or clear plastic, because it's almost impossible to see through the tinted plastic hopper to see when the beans have run out. If it wasn't on a counter under a cabinet, you could easily lift the lid to see the beans. Lastly, good luck finding beans with a "roasted date" on the package or bulk bin. Typically what you see is a "use by" date or a "filled" date on bulk bins in grocery stores. None of this is a deal breaker.
