I bought this last month. Overall, I’m happy with 1/2 of the machine. The brewing capabilities and steaming functions are great.
The only downside is the grinder. I have no problems with dark and medium roasts, but when I tried grinding lighter roasts from a local roaster, the grinder jammed, making loud ratchet sounds. After cleaning the burrs, grind chamber, exit chute, and tamp fan twice, the grinder was still jamming. Even after adjusting the grind size over 30 (1-45, 45 coarsest) where the espresso just waterfalls out of the portafilter, it still jammed.
I concluded that I have to avoid light roasts in this machine as lighter roasted beans are more dense. The grinder motor just doesn’t have the torque to break through it. With the price of this machine, I’m disappointed that the grinder is this weak, considering the grinder is the most important element of making good coffee.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

This is normally a great product. This is the third one I have purchased. But I recently have experienced an issue with the frothing process. The frothing wand feature will occasionally not start up as it should. So I will have to turn the machine off and wait awhile. Then turn it back on. Usually that will take care of it. The issue occurs when I push down on the control lever to make the frothing wand run on "Auto".
I would recommend this to a friend!

My machine has lasted 7 years of daily use, and has a large selection of settings for whatever type of espresso you want to learn to master. The machine does require regular care (descaling both boilers, pulling apart the steam wand to get the gunk off from underneath). During one of my descale cycles, I mistakenly put the machine through a heating cycle while the boilers were empty. This had the effect of burning out one of the fuses and preventing the boiler from heating. However, customer service has been helpful in allowing me to repair the unit.
