After much research I bought the Kamado Joe Classic I for my son. His review to me was he 1st cooked a pork roast just to season the grill. Next he cooked a spatchcock turkey for his in-laws. He sent pictures and it looked really good. a 13 lb turkey for 6 people. Not many left overs. He is really excited about learning more and grilling (and smoking) on the grill. I see some additional accessories in the future.
Amazing what you can cook on such a small grill. Yes you can BBQ for a family of 4! 4 lb pork Butt, or beer can whole chicken, or 4 New York steaks. I also own a Big Joe 24” and 22” Weber kettle but use this Joe jr grill 80% of the time. The times I’m using the other grills are for ribs or 7-8Lb pork butts. This grill can do ribs if you buy a rib rack and fold them but I have other options when I need the space. My point is this is a surprising grill that can smoke, grill, and make amazing food. Ceramic grills really help keep moisture in the food keeping it juicy with tons of flavor. Great job Kamado Joe for making such a great and economical option!
Wasn’t sure what to expect, but my husband and I love our Kamado Joe Jr. it holds temp like a champ and we use it almost everyday
Been smoking pork butts and they pass the neighbor test (he used to smoke meat for a living)
Chicken has been good too, but need to experiment more
The only real frustration is there is little to no access to add charcoal or wood chunks while using the heat deflector. This is a serious redesign necessity to make this a great smoker for its size
Have also rolled a rack of ribs and smoked. Turned out well for my first try.
I went through complete he’ll try to get one of these grills . I will not bore you all with those details but trust getting one of these is not the easiest thing in the world. Retailers lie about having them to get you to commit to buying then you wait weeks and weeks while they hunt down and get it to there facility then you wait for them to send to you . I love the grill but didn’t get the one I really wanted . Part of this I suppose is my fault but these grills are not advertised in enough detail explains the variables between the series 1,2,and 3 . I have the 1 series and it cooks well but I was hoping for some of the features that apparently are exclusive to series 2&3. I could have boxed it back and sent it back before building a fire 8n it but I was discussed with what I had already gone through to get the grill and I wasn’t going through it again or I’d have done with out . The grills are like tanks and they do there job. For long cooks I did purchase the Ultra Q Guru and it’s never been a set it and forget grill that worked any better .
I would recommend this to a friend!

An awesome grill/cooker! Can grill, bake, and smoke! Made ribs, pizza, chicken on it. Very versatile. Has learning curve to use, but is worth it! A little hard to move around and it was hard to set up due to weight and placing the grill in the stand (ring of the stand gets in the way when hold the bottom vent to lift). Despite having the older hinge, opening the dome wasn’t to hard (feels like you are slowly lowering a 15lbs pound weight). the stand is seems good, but the ring insert can pop off, so screw securely.
