We have been having our Kamado Joe for several years now and I’ve cooked everything from burgers, steak, chicken, vegetables, pizza, to even chilli. If you want a durable, well made, easy to operate cooker for your patio, you can’t beat the Kamado line. It even makes something as simple and inexpensive as chicken leg quarters into a great meal. With everything to choose from leg quarters (crispy on the outside and juicy inside) are literally my wife’s favorite. She says nothing gives them flavor like our Kamado Joe (and I agree).
There is no going back. I love my Kamado Joe and use it regularly. My best smoke? Home made BACON! I got a whole pork belly, and followed the instructions in my smoking cookbook (the one given to me by a friend complete with greasy sauce stains, and no front cover!) and created the perfect accompaniment to breakfast. I got to use Maple syrup made at home, and that was special too. The consistent heat, and consistent smoke was a dream to work with.
I've owned a few barbecues over the years, but the Joe Jr with cast iron stand genuinely surprised me. For a compact unit, it delivers exceptional heat control and consistency. It comes up to temperature quickly, holds it effortlessly, and the ceramic build quality feels solid and premium.
The cast iron stand gives it real presence and stability, and it's ideal for smaller gatherings, quick weekday cooks, or taking away if needed. I've used it for steaks, chicken, low and slow cooks and even pizza, and it performs brilliantly every time.
What stands out most is the flavour. The airflow control makes a noticeable difference, and once you learn the vents, it becomes incredibly intuitive to manage.
Compact, powerful and beautifully made. I would absolutely recommend it.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Big Joe is a fantastic grill for the money. My grill is over ten years old with hundreds of cooks and im only now having to do work on it. Holds temp perfectly with long cook times!
I’m a seasoned bbqer, but in recent years I had grown tired of the same old cooks and tired of the cheap feeling thin metal grills and smokers I’ve previously owned. The Kamado Joe is solid and heavy as hell, but more importantly, it has reignited my love of outdoor cooking while also opening up a world of new possibilities to me thanks to things like the divide and conquer system, the pizza stone, the full size Karbon steel griddle, and the Joetisserie. Everything that I’ve cooked on it so far has been delicious, and it will only get better as I get more cooks under my belt on it. There are other grills that claim to be able to do it all, and technically they can, but they don’t do any of it really well. (Sorry, pellet grill owners) But the Kamado Joe , in my estimation, really can do it all and, most importantly, do it all well.
I thought about buying this grill for probably 6 years. I finally got around to it last year. My steaks are so good now that I refuse to buy one at a restaurant, Mine are much better. This grill has changed cooking for me.
