Joe Jr is great for a small grill.

I highly recommend this grill for anyone getting started with Kamado or in need of a semi-portable grill. I bought this to replace a gas grill that was way too big for my needs. I'm not going back to gas after this.
Pros:
1. The design of the rack and included ceramic heat deflection plate are very good, allowing for at least 4 cooking configurations: Direct cooking low, direct cooking high (remove rack and place grill directly on ceramic ring), indirect cooking with included deflection plate, "double-indirect" cooking for pizza (you need to buy a pizza stone for this).
2. The included tools are very handy (the grill lifter and especially the ash removal tool).

3. It would be nice if there were some reference markings on the lower air setting, 3 or 4 etched lines would be nice, that way I can reproduce settings more easily.

1. Buy the smallest Kamado grill you need. Smaller grills heat up faster. The Joe Jr. is certainly enough for 2 people.
2. Buy a grill cover for this if it is going outside.
3. Buy good heat resistant gloves if you are doing cooks that involve changing the grill configuration.
4. Even though the grill is called "portable," it still weighs 77 pounds which is a 2 person lift for many people. I'd call this semi-portable as it barely fits behind the seat of my car and is a bit cumbersome to use for weekly activities.

We bought this grill after our former grill broke after giving us many years of great meals. This Kamodo Joe is just as praise worthy. It fixes perfectly grilled food for us. We intend to use it all year long, even here in the frozen tundra of the Midwest. We’ve liked the grill ideas sent by the company. Great smoker/griller!!

Received the Kamadojoe for Father's Day. I very rarely use my pellet smoker anymore. Once I learned how to vent properly I can park this sucker on whatever temperature I want. Great product!

I love my Big Joe! My granddaughter especially loves the pizzas I make on it (better than any takeout or eat-in pizza I've found), but steaks, ribs, chicken all are fabulous. You won't be disappointed. And Kamado Joe's customer service is THE BEST.

My first meal was a whole chicken, which I did not monitor closely, so skin was burned, but I was amazed the chicken was not ruined! It was very tasty and not dried out. I find it fairly easy to control the temperature too. My only regret, is that I wish I had gotten the larger grill, mostly for accessories and a taller grill stand. None the less, I prefer this over a gas grill which I had used for years. I am very pleased
