Works great but has one annoying feature
on May 6, 2024

As stated. The gps works great. The one feature that annoys is of course a nanny state thing to protect you from you. EVERY TIME it starts it goes to the screen to pick car or rv. When the unit starts. I want it to go into navigation. Not ask me questions as if I’m an idiot.

Next Step In Vehicle GPS

I have been using Garmin vehicle GPS for decades. I find using a GPS navigator is superior to using a cell phone. Navigation always works regardless of cell service. Every couple of years the manufacturer updates them, and I generally upgrade every few years. This RV795 was purchased to replace a Drivesmart 51 that is probably 8 years old. I like the bigger screen, and the processor is much faster. Reroutes are quick and searches require fewer steps. You can just say something and the RV795 will search for it without navigating menus. It seems to recognize speech better too. The game changer is the overhead photos of your location making it easier to find a way in or out of a parking lot/campground.
The caveat here is that you need the RV795 to be connected to a cell phone for traffic, 4 square, and overhead photos which are downloaded. The Garmin Drive app works well and I use it on a daily basis. The GPS and nav still work, just not all of the extras. After updating the firmware, op software, and maps, it took a while to figure out how to make traffic etc. work. Once connected to the phone using the Drive app, it works well. Like most devices these days expect some work to get everything working. The results are worth it.

Rv garmin is UNRELIABLE!
on May 29, 2024

Trip on Oklahoma turnpike to Paris Texas it gave a 101 minute delay. Google maps and wayze did not see it.
Current trip from pagosa springs to taos new Mexico, it routed through a CLOSED road for construction. Had we trusted Google maps it routed us around so we should have trusted Google maps.
Several instances where garmin missed key things like speed changes or other critical things for driving.
Attached is pic of upgrade. I tried to cancel but garmin stated maps already deleted so would be unusable. Showed 91 hours but finally finished overnight.
Also was challenge uploading routes from rvlife (lucky youtube showed how).

Needs a desktop client

The Garmin RV series is absolutely the best way to navigate in your RV. We have tried all of the other so called RV navigation devices and it is hands down the best. I deducted 1 star because it won’t let me do a half. The half a star would be for trip planning. You either have to plan on the device or with Garmin Basecamp. Basecamp is buggy, and not intuitive at all. Garmin really needs to build a good web based planning client for the device that would hopefully allow third party attachments for camping information.
If you want a good RV navigation device that won’t lead you to a low pass than the Garmin RV series is the best.

Not as intuitive as prior models
on July 29, 2024

Is not nearly as easy to operate as prior model. Don’t like that a selection of “ map views” ie-satellite, driving etc isn’t available. Need to select vehicle every time instead of setting it once. Touch screen works intermittently. Display,(Elevation, time to destination etc) needs to be reset everytme unit is restarted..Display changes with bumpy road.

Excellent navigator & easy to use

Initial review after only a few months, the RV 795 is very fsat in processing infomration and easy to use as i navigate thru the menu items, i.e. where to go, saved places, creating shortcuts. This RV 795 replaced a well used 51 LMT that was extremely easy to use, and the RV 795 clearly outshines the 51 LMT. The larger screen can be seen by my passengers in the back seat and the voice commands heard cleary. Looking forward to using it on our next RV trip (reason we purchased it) and see how accurate the bridge & road data is. The speed data and traffic information is spot on, even with construction zones (major interstate improvements.

First Garmin product I have NOT been happy with

I was forced to buy a replacement for my Garmin 770 RV model after it kept rebooting repeatedly. I loved all the features it had as it was and hoped the 795 would just be a newer model with satellite images. However, I lost "Voice Command" which allowed me to program the GPS while driving... I lost locating places "Along My Route", I lost the look ahead at the road as well. Now I constantly get "LOST SATELLITE CONNECTION" and it is not as touch responsive as the 770. I don't see it lasting with me as I travel full-time for business teaching RV owners and NOW I CANNOT even recommend one to new buyers.
