Great out of the box

I've been a long time Garmin user, but it's been a few years since I purchased a new watch from them. I was delightfully surprised to find the watch fully charged and ready to record activities right out of the box. Connecting it to my phone/Strava was simple, and I love all the upgraded features (compared to my previous Forerunner model). I run, strength train, hike, and bike - all with ease and access to my health and activity stats in the flick of my wrist, literally.

So light!

I bought this to replace my Fenix 5s for an upcoming marathon and I'm so glad I did. It is so light compared to the Fenix 5s. I only use the watch for running, so the extra features of the Fenix line are kind of pointless for me. I mainly bought it because I'm a slow runner and I get worried every time I use the Fenix that the battery wouldn't last. The Forerunner still had more than half it's battery life when I finished the marathon! If you're looking to just get a watch to help with running, I'd highly suggest this one.

Pretty okay

Upgraded from the 245 recently for the new tech. I like the new features like training load, wake up screen, and HRV. I absolutely love the new color options, and the battery life is a huge improvement over the 245. There are more activity options with the 255 and on-screen instructions for yoga/strength/HIIT workouts. However, there are some things that keep me from giving them more stars. The buttons are very sticky. My lower left button has been sticky since a few weeks into owning the watch, and when I requested a return and got a new watch, the exact same issue cropped up on the new device. And I lost all my historical HRV data when I switched watches, meaning I had to wait another three weeks for that data to process again. Sleep tracking is still pretty bad on this week (kind of a Garmin watch issue in general rather than this watch in particular) so I pretty much ignore the sleep data besides general hours slept. Lastly, I am still having some pretty significant issues with GPS, Livetrack taking forever to load, and activities taking a long time to upload to the Connect app. Not a bad watch by any means, but I was hoping for more from Garmin for a new entry in the Forerunner series, especially at the price it's listed. I think the 245 or 55 may still be better investments at the moment until there are some bug fixes and the button issue is resolved.

I had the forerunner 735xt before this and I am so glad I made the switch. The 255s has so many more features and I don’t have to run with my phone anymore.

Love this Watch!

I'm more of a hiker than a runner but this watch does everything I want it to. Elevation gain, elevation profile, steps climbed, and it syncs to GPS incredibly quickly. Provides all the info I use and was so much easier to figure out that I feared. Highly recommend for hikers and walkers! Plus -- it looks great!

I bought the model Forerunner 255s around 3 months ago. The watch is lighter and smaller than the corresponding 255 model, thus it is very agreeable to wear as a woman. The numerous fitness and health features enabled me to learn more about my health in general and the impact of the exercises to my fitness level. Some features are missing, but here are my workarounds:
1) rowing machine: there is no interface yet to my rowing machine model, but I found out that I can still measure the exercise by the function “indoor-rowing”
2) swimming in pool: in my place the swimming pools have different lengths, you can use the function “swimming pool” and later in the app change the distance of the pool length or use the function “Freiwasser” (open waters?) and the length of the pool will be automatically measured by tracking your movement.

I started using the running plan this week to see if I would be more motivated to run in general and noticed that the mix between warm up, running and cool down enabled me to run and feel more energised (despite running just after work) but not feel exhausted or hurting in the knees.
My improvement suggestions would be as follows:
1) I think the new standard for charging is USB-C. The cable I received was USB. Maybe change the standard?
2) Swimming pool function: maybe enable to select the pool distance before starting the exercise?
3) Create an interface between Garmin and Smart Row App from Water Rower.
