Upgraded from the 935

The added battery life is what won me over to upgrade. I use it daily and only need to charge every couple weeks. Additionally, there are a lot more activity types to select from such as Nordic skiing. And though I don't look through the data fields daily, they are fun and beneficial to keep track of things such as sleep. The training readiness is great too. highly recommend for endurance and adventure athletes.

Wonderful Upgrade

I have been a Garmin user for the last 3 years since getting into cycling. I recently upgraded my Forerunner 945 to the Forerunner 955 for the training readiness and HRV status. I loved my 945, but while using it I was also using a Whoop band which focused more on rest and recovery. I left like the 945 was lacking when it came to how the stress I was putting on my body was affecting me ability to train and recover.
I decided not to pay the monthly subscription for the Whoop band and spend that money on the 955 Solar and I could not be happier. With it I have been a lot more aware on how workouts, rest, and recovery are all important when it comes to performance. My only regret is not seeing this amazing deal on the watch and paying full price at local store. That being said, I am glad I bought it. If you are looking for an new sport focused watch to help track workouts and rest this is the one. I have used my watch for runs, hikes, walks, rock climbing, bike rides, and more much.
Compared to the 945, the 955 has a way bigger battery which is a nice surprise. Fit and feel for both models are very similar; I could barely notice a difference. 955 screen is a little bigger, slightly sharper, more responsive, and touch screen! (touch screen can be disabled but it is a nice feature when you want to use it)

Very glad I upgraded to the forerunner

Have used an instinct in the past, but bike tracking was a little wonky with it. Decided to upgrade to a forerunner since most reviews said it was a great biking watch, and they were correct. Currently been using it to track hikes, runs, and biking and it's saved me from needing to upgrade my phone since it's battery is starting to go. I'm also a big fan of its recovery tracking and the training features Garmin has with these watches now. The solar charging is a really nice feature as well, as on longer bike rides (60-100mi) the battery keeps a pretty decent charge despite having gps tracking on for 4-6 hours.

Good choice

Pros: Watch is nice and light weight. Watch is a really good size: the display is easy to read even if you choose to use a screen with many data fields on it; some reviews raise a concern about the size of the watch on the wrist, but even though I am smaller boned (for a man of 6'3"), this watch is definitely not too big. Display is nice and colours are nice. Battery charges REALLY quickly when necessary (took me less than 1-2 hours to charge from 25% to 100% - I wasn't watching it charge so I don't know how long it actually took). Good pre-made training programs including running, cycling, strength, yoga, pilates, stretching and more. Through the Garming Connect phone app you can create your own training programs. Great for tracking sets, reps and rest periods during workouts. Easily connects to bike trainer and to phone, updates quickly and cycles through screens without lag. The training data is a lot of fun to look at and gives a lot of feedback on your workout which can help you learn how effective your exercise session was and what you can do better next time. Rest recommendation is great - forcing myself to not exercise again until I have fully recovered is a feature I'm liking a lot. I am not an endurance athlete and so the watch is really helping me learn and improve my cardiovascular training.
Cons: If you make your own workout, it can only be so long - if you want to track 2 exercises per muscle group on an upper body day (2x5 groups=10 x3 sets= 30 + 30rests= 60 entries into your workout which surpasses or is just about the limit of how many steps your created workouts can have, so be aware of this limitation) Scratches the paint off relatively easily - as someone who hasn't worn a watch in years before getting this one I do knock it against things from time to time and a relatively light rub up against the wall took some paint off the watch so you can see the metallic under layer. Only esthetic but I've seen this comment on other reviews and it's worth expecting.
Why I chose it: I was originally looking at the lower end Garmin watches but decided to do a century on my bike so the longer battery life was very attractive. The full topographic maps are great as I've managed to get lost on a longer bike ride before, which ruined my intended trip because I couldn't get to the scenic spot I was aiming for, so having it mapped out on my watch and being able to check if I'm on the right track without having to pull out my phone or use my data. Daily recommended exercise and cardio training programs are effective and gratifying when you complete them and the data shows you what progress was achieved with the work out.

Love all the data. The screen is very clear. Gives you so much data. Especially if you pair it with a HRM.
