Does It All

Have been using for 2 weeks now, having logged about 10 runs over 14 days. Have only had to charge it once. I’ve used an Apple Watch and a Fitbit Sense, and the metrics provided by this watch and the Garmin Connect app are finally giving me what I’ve wanted. I’m a former athlete (10ish years ago) and training for a 10k - the recommended runs have already got me to an improved RHR and feeling in better shape. I’ll be using it for half marathon training and plan to use one of the Garmin coaches programs.

Awesome Watch!
on April 25, 2023

Been using this watch as a multi-sport athlete for a couple months now. I upgraded from the Garmin Instinct, which was a good watch too and did the basics for everything.
I decided to upgrade to this 955 solar to assist in diving a lot deeper into training and metrics and it provides that tenfold. I also purchased the HR-Pro heart rate monitor, also a great compliment tool for training.
One complaint I have is the lack of upload from a pool session which perplexed me. I notice the 955 drops BT connection during swim sessions, which makes some sense, but then doesnt connect back when the session is over it appears. So, when the pool session is “complete” the upload seems to be stuck in limbo and is never uploaded. A work around for this is to connect the USB cable to your PC and then pull the file over from the watch folder to Garmin Connect and then the session is uploaded. So, its clear there is a bug there for pool sessions and this series of watch. What I do now, before I finalize a pool session is go to bluetooth and manually reconnect the watch and then “save” the session, so far, zero problems doing this method.
But onwards about the watch features are great, of course the “training readiness” is a little dramatic in my opinion. I was knee deep in training when I bought the watch and ever since its told me I am supposed to rest for 2-3-4 days to be “effective”…..yeah, nah, I can’t do that. But I suppose it’ll work itself out over the next few month to a year to learn “me” and how “ready” I can be.
Touch screen is really legit, works as it should and I like it from a quick switch through screens while active in a training session.
Not entirely sold on the solar function. Seems like it helps keep some battery life I suppose a little longer than others. But my instinct didnt require as much charging as this watch has already had. But, this watch is pulling a lot more metrics behind the scenes, so it’s draining the battery it seems.
Quick insert is the weight is basically nothing and the watch face is a great size. (I read a few concerns about the size and weight and thought I’d end up with a heavy watch. Its not heavy in the slightest to me.)
All in all I’m still brand new with the watch and haven't even scratched the surface of all the potential features, but I am happy with the purchase but think I could have saved a little bit of money by just getting the 955 non-solar.

Great athletic recording features but poor smart w

I bought this smart watch because I am a long distance runner and wanted to have the best metrics possible to record my workouts. It was great for that, but ultimately I returned it because I needed a watch that has cell service. Also the interface is very weak, doesn't have a lot of smart features and the screen doesn't get very bright, plus there are very little apps you can use on it and you can't cycle through them on the watch screen. The GPS is great and the workout tracking is great, but I just had to go with the Samsung watch pro because the smart watch features are much better and I'm able to make calls and texts without having to carry my phone.

Screen issues
on April 28, 2023

I bought the Garmin forerunner 955 this month and after a week of using it the screen keeps messing up. It’s progressively gotten worse. I’m attempting to return it now. Before the screen issues I loved the watch.

Great Watch!
on April 30, 2023

I am thrilled with my purchase. The main reason I changed to Garmin is that I was tired of charging my other smartwatch daily. The Forerunner 955 has a long battery life and several features that I find helpful, like training status, recovery time, and the suggested workouts.

Great watch!!!

I bought this watch three ago and so glad I did. I bought it specifically for triathlons and love the life of the battery. I was able to complete an Ironman event and the watch still had 36% battery life remaining. Apple Watch never had the ability to make it through 2/3 of the event. Love it!

Easy to use, longest battery life
on May 5, 2023

Chose this for the optimal combination of battery life, feature set, and ease of use. I could not be happier. Has all the features needed plus easier to adjust/customize screens and function than prior generations, adds solar charging, and increases the battery life beyond what any other offers.
