Unfortunately, not a keeper!

Purchased this phone upon release in August 2022... within a month, the hinge stopped working... and the screen developed a bright line across the center of the screen... before completely failing. Samsung was great at supporting the product... and turned it around in three days (local Samsung Center couldn't address the problem under warranty). Whatever modification/improvement to the hinge/screen was great... definitely an improvement! Then last month, the screen protection started to come off at the hinge line... again, just normal use. Again, Samsung stepped up to supporting (in warranty) but it took approx a week to turn around. At this point, I do have my phone back but with warranty expiration rapidly approaching, I've decided to trade it in for a plain S23. I rely on my phone... so can't take any more chances! With all this said, my only recommendation is for Samsung to recheck their design of this phone... this is 4th generation, but doesn't feel like it!
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Flawed to the bone

The software is there, as are the ideas, but the hardware is not durable enough to warrant what they are asking for it. I got mine back towards October of 2022, and I am on my fourth one (third replacement). The first time I dropped it, and that's fine I realize that could have broken any phone, the hinge coming disconnected, irreversible, and welcoming of small particles on the inside. The second time it slipped out of my lap from knee height and landed on soft padded floor, the hinge came undone and dust got on the inside again, screwing with the screen which deemed it unfixable. The last time, I didn't even do anything; I wasn't near dirt, I wasn't rough, I didn't drop it, I got an ultra protective case, there is nothing more that I could have done... I just opened the phone after using it five minutes prior to find an inch thick streak of dead pixels across the middle of my screen, and the top half of the screen unresponsive to anything. I can see the ingenuity in this product, and I love supporting new technology to sew future advancements, but there comes a point where I question the worth of my (unfortunately) continuous investment. I would not recommend this to anyone but the enthusiast, and handle with extreme caution -- even that may not be enough.

Over all it has been a pretty good phone. I switched from a Galaxy note 10 to an iPhone 10 and was not very pleased with the poor construction of the I phone. It broke in nearly 10 weeks. I decided to switch back to Samsung with the Flip 4 and could not have been more pleased. I was so pleased that for once in my life I decided to preorder the new model.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Delaminating screen protector
on August 3, 2023

I've had this phone about 11 months. I was warned to avoid the Z Flip 4 device by a salesman who had the Z Flip 3 and he complained about the poor performance of the factory screen protector which delaminates in the crease. I figured the newer model Flip 4 would have resolved such problems, but after about 4 months of gentle use I learned I was wrong, and the same thing happened to my phone. It has soured me on folding phones generally, and Samsung phones particularly, because since this was a known problem in the prior generation models, they should not have created new phones without fixing the issue. I will likely move on to another phone brand after about 15 years as a loyal Samsung guy. Other minor issue lately is the phone sometimes gets incredibly hot when charging and running Android Auto in the car. The protective Otterbox case would not stay in place after 6 months, and thus it had to be removed. Overall, the worst mobile phone experience I have ever had.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
