More Information Equals a Safer Ride

As a cyclist in East Montgomery, AL, I’m always looking for ways to make my rides safer.
That’s why I was so excited to get my Edge 1040. It provides me with an abundance of information that helps me make my rides safer and more enjoyable. The map feature gives me an updated view of the roads I ride on. This is especially helpful when I’m unfamiliar with an area or if I’m riding in unfamiliar terrain (I moved to Alabama to work on an Air Force Base there). Knowing where I’m going and being able to plan my route ahead of time can make a huge difference in my safety.
I’ve also programmed alerts for hydration and fuel. Knowing I’m taking in enough water and fuel can make a huge difference in my performance and safety on the road. Having this information always at my fingertips helps me stay on top of my hydration and fuel needs so I can stay safe and comfortable on my ride.
Finally, I’ve attached a versa taillight to my bike computer. This allows me to be warned well in advance of a car approaching from the rear. This is especially helpful on long rides, and I’ve found that it gives me added peace of mind as I’m out on the road. Overall, my Edge has been a great asset in making my rides safer and more enjoyable. Having more information helps me plan my rides better, take the necessary precautions to stay hydrated and fueled, and to be warned of approaching vehicles.
If you’re looking for ways to make your rides safer, get the 1040.

Shut down problems

Bought today and right on day 1, the device ‘hangs’ when power down. I had to google how to reset. Problem repeats on every power down. Regret purchasing this unit.

I’ve had garmin since the 510. I have an old 1000 that was my back, and I bought the 1030 about 3 years ago. Small upgrade. The 1040 interface is very nice. I like the longer battery life.

Better but still doesn’t receive text messages.

I’ve followed the steps several times over to get enable text notifications and it still doesn’t work. Otherwise, it’s an improvement over the 1030.

I was forced to buy a new computer after I left my 1030 on the roof of my car and I later found it crushed on the street in front of my work.
The 1040 looks thinner and lighter, I like the chrome. The screen is easier to read and I like some of the charts that you can display while you are riding. I'm still learning all of the new features.

Larger size better for older eyes

I bought this to replace my smaller 830, which replaced my 810. The 810’s on/off button quit working and also was starting to lose runtime. No regrets on any of my Garmin purchases. I like the larger scree size and was especially pleased at how easy it was to get it setup. I was ecstatic when the prompt ask if I wanted it to transfer all my setting from the 830 to the 1040. I was dreading having to enter all my gear and screen settings. Good show Garmin. Two thumbs up.
