Great Cycling Computer

I just received my 1040. Setup including power meters and electronic shifting on 2 bikes, Strava integration, and heart rate monitor was well under 15 minutes.
I currently have the Wahoo Roam, but this new 1040 has so many useful features like the built in workouts for race preparation that it sets itself apart from the competition.

Living the future

My Wahoo died (stopped taking charge) the day before BWR. My local shop hooked me up with one of these for the race, and it was like I entered a time machine. I put in all my power / HR data, and it paced me through the whole course. It's such a hilly track that you're often on your own so the living pacing / ETA helped finish in good time w/o out burning too many matches. I should also add that I've run this in the rain, and the touch screen when wet has improved dramatically over previous generations and the Karoo.

I LOVE the battery life - it's nothing short of amazing. The stamina/potential with the estimated distance features are a real game changer for me as I ride a lot of 100k to 200k rides and this helps my pacing immeasurably. The screen size is awesome (I'm 66). The 1040 paired beautifully with my PM, speed and HR sensors. This baby has been rock solid. This is my third Edge (prev. being 705 and Edge Explore). I've loved them both but this is unbelievable. To get the most out of this, do yourself a favor and get some type of power meter. It's not just the data it collects, but the way it distills that data into useful advice that rocks. This baby just WORKS.

Improvement over 1030plus

Quicker processor, sharper and bigger font, graphic data, and performance indicators are a plus. However, Garmin continuously releases products not totally ready for prime time. In this case, there are very few IQ apps compatible with the 1040 and no ability to download Ride with GPS or Strava routes directly as was possible with the older 1030 model.
