Great device

I have the GARMIN 530 Edge and wanted to upgrade to a bigger device and with touch screen I really love the 1040 it connects flawlessly to my devices as well as my DI2 components. Money well spent.

Excellent Battery Life and More

The first thing I noticed is the incredible battery life compared to my Garmin 1000. After 330 miles I still have 35% battery life. I have the non-solar version. Given my daily riding paying another $150 for solar charging and 64GB of memory is overkill. I am using the standard GPS satellite setting. Navigation works well and customizing screens are a breeze. I really like the re-routing capability compared to my 1000. So far, no glitches where the Garmin turns off during a ride. Lots of metrics are available if that is your thing. Overall, I am very happy with the 1040.

Difficulty syncing and setting up

I bought this a few months ago for my wife but we are still not using it (using the old one) because of difficulties syncing and setting up the various sensors. It is not as easy as earlier versions

Easy To Use

I have three separate activity profiles each linked to a particular bike, road, mountain and gravel. The touch screen makes it easy to switch between profiles. While riding, I can easily switch between different screens for the bike I am riding. I also like the size of screen for seeing the map as I ride. I have had almost every iteration of the Edge series and this is by far my favorite.

Very Easy to install and to pair with pre-existing devices (radar, speedometer,...)
Provides a lot of reliable and vital information
The ability to personalize screens, even on the go, is very helpful
Very long battery. 10h easy, perhaps 12h ! And fast charge with that!
Garmin ecosystem (app, watch) integrates seamlessly and help then keep scores of performance (and push it to Strava) and even monitors your bike usage!!

All in all a great unit that I would buy again

I love the bigger screen and layout. The dashboard like front page is great with usable information at your fingertip. I rated it 9 as navigation is not working as well as I hoped for. I have had many messages with navigation error. Maybe I just need to spend more time playing around with the navigation part. All in all a great unit that I would buy again.
