Worth it for fast route calculation & map redraw

Everything is an improvement, lots of catch up for what Wahoo has always had, especially lightning fast route calculation and no more slowing WAY down for it to show you your next turn while it redraws the map. Same for panning and zooming.
Just frustrating that after several remove/adds, it doesn't properly control my Garmin urban headlamp nor my rear radar camera.

Good velo computer, new interface is less intuitive

The mapping functionality and the battery life are the primary reasons I bought this computer. I've previously had a Garmin 500 and a 520, as well as a Wahoo Bolt and Elemnt Roam and a Karoo Hammerhead 2. Obviously, my earlier Garmin and Wahoo devices weren't as advanced in those two areas, but I loved Wahoos for their stupid-simple operation. They didn't try to do too much. I didn't like the 520. Too much button pushing. The 500 was revolutionary for what it was. The Hammerhead...love the interface, but map integrations were lacking, so creating and loading maps was fiddly. Their own map creation software was awful. The on-screen maps were amazing, but for some reason, in spite of vehement protests from many users, they did not provide an option to turn off their auto-reroute function, and it was a complete mess for off-road rides. The battery life forced me to carry a charger on longer gravel events...
Enter the 1040. Battery life is phenomenal. I have the non-solar because I wanted a better screen, and I never ride more than 12 hours at once, so...It's pretty easy to operate once you sort through it. There are endless screen options. I'd like to see the ability to add four metrics rather than just two while running the map. I have it set up to run without sound off road, and I've turned off re-routing...because no one's rerouting works when you leave good ol' average pavement. The one thing I'm not as impressed with after the Karoo 2 is the coloration of the maps. I'd like better contrast on the colors.
Garmin devices always try to do more than I want any machine to do. I don't want a computer to try to train me. "Hangtime"...it's a little silly. Anyhow. The form factor is good...the size, the profile, the functionality, the battery life, all pretty solid. If you don't want it to do something, you can generally turn every function you don't like off.

Easy to use

Bought it a few weeks ago and have used it every ride since then. Easy to use, great display and the heart rate monitor/cadence sensor/speed sensor are super easy to connect. Love it for sure. Would buy it again for sure.

So far the Edge 1040 has met or exceeded my expectations and l've really enjoyed using it. It's winter here and l've only used it to control my smart trainer but am anxious to use it outdoors when the snow melts.

Larger size better for older eyes

I bought this to replace my smaller 830, which replaced my 810. The 810’s on/off button quit working and also was starting to lose runtime. No regrets on any of my Garmin purchases. I like the larger scree size and was especially pleased at how easy it was to get it setup. I was ecstatic when the prompt ask if I wanted it to transfer all my setting from the 830 to the 1040. I was dreading having to enter all my gear and screen settings. Good show Garmin. Two thumbs up.

I was forced to buy a new computer after I left my 1030 on the roof of my car and I later found it crushed on the street in front of my work.
The 1040 looks thinner and lighter, I like the chrome. The screen is easier to read and I like some of the charts that you can display while you are riding. I'm still learning all of the new features.

Better but still doesn’t receive text messages.

I’ve followed the steps several times over to get enable text notifications and it still doesn’t work. Otherwise, it’s an improvement over the 1030.
