Initial wanted to try the solar version, happy I didn't getting 20 hours per charge. Quick to acquire GPS signals, fast rerouting and syncing. Only issue I've heard of is sweat may change fields on the screen, prompting a screen lock.

Long time Garmin watch owner and have been slow to convince myself to buy an edge to have directly on the bike. Only regretting is waiting this long to convert. I use the 1040 on my mountain, road, commuter and e-bike. Shifts seamlessly between them all and provides valuable information with ease no matter the purpose of my ride.

Great cycling computer/gps unit. I was concerned about the size coming from a 530 but I really like it. I use it on my mountain bike with a k edge stem mount.

Great Cycling Computer

I upgraded from the Edge 1030. It was not much of an upgrade but the Edge 1040 had a couple of new features that help me track my fitness and, to some degree, my bout with chronic fatigue. It was an easy upgrade and I didn't have to change any mounts. The two biggest features that helped me make my decision were the longer battery life and the new stamina tracking. If you are looking for a new bike computer, this one is a great choice.

Great Computer for MTB

I coach a high school MTB team and having this on the dashboard is a must. Definitely plan on watching a couple YouTube videos because there are more functions on this bad boy than a leprechaun has freckles.

Battery life on the non-solar version is outta this world. The screen is great, big and bright, map is good, new climb pro update has me using climb pro for the first time after 11 years on Garmin. This is my favorite Garmin device yet. If you're not into the big flashy screen, the 840 looks just as good but smaller. They've really hit on a good thing with the x40 generation so far.
