Snappy & Power Guide
on August 18, 2022

Really wanted the power guide for my triathlons, and I really do like that. Surprised by the snappiness of the UX. I've used it a half dozen times or so, and on some long rides, and have been happy. I do wish we could customize the Power Guide or add a field showing the parts of that page to custom data screens (say interval remaining, power target or so on).

Loving the 1040
on August 18, 2022

Only had if for a short time now but it was super easy to set up and the screen is a bit bigger than my 1000 and the numbers are much easier to read. It seems to have a lot of new features but not so different that I couldn’t easily figure it out. What’s not to love?

Mostly Pros a few Cons
on August 20, 2022

I had the edge 1000 for 8 years. Very rarely did I have any issues. I decided to buy the new edge 1040 after my 1000 started to act up. The first 1040 unit was not working correctly but Garmin customer service was great and sent a new one out ASAP! The Pros for the 1040 are the battery life, the brightness, the size of the data fields. I have 9 data fields on screen 1 and they are very clear. I have the Garmin radar which I love and the 1040 is much louder than my 1000 with the sound to tell me a vehicle is back. There are many features which I don’t even use. I just use the basics. I have used it 3 times on over 40 mile rides and it’s great EXCEPT here are the 2 Cons. My major issue with the 1040 is the lag time it takes to tell me what my grade is. On my 1000, it would tell me in 2 seconds what the grade is. I would be riding up the hill and knowing in real time what the grade was. The 1040 is like 15 seconds lag time! I’m up the hill and on the flats or going downhill and then tells me 15%. That is my major issue with the 1040. Also the temperature is off like 7 degrees! It said 94 and I knew it was not 94 outside. A rider with me that has the 1030 said it was 86. That was more like it. If a software update could be done for these 2 issues the 1040 would be awesome!!!

I have only used it twice so far but I can already tell it's worth the upgrade, even from a 1030. The screen is crisp and clear even in very bright sun light. The milage is now accurate. I have several friends who own very old bike computers and several who's use their apple watches. They always get 2-5 miles more on the same route when I use the 1030. With the 1040 we were pretty much the same. The absolute best improvement is the navigation. When I used the 1030 and went off course, it just gave up on me. The 1040 recalculated the route in a matter of seconds. And it never stopped. It kept recalculating until I was back on the course. That alone is worth the upgrade.

Not fully cooked

I have had this for several weeks and it has some software/design bugs. One if you put the timer in a small space and it hits 1 hour, the hour will be cut off. On the 1030 it shifts to shoe hour:minutes. They should have kept that behavior. Two. When you turns on the 1040 you are always show a suggest training for that day. As someone who just rides I could care less about training. Unfortunately I have not found a way to get rid of it. Finally seems slow to pause when stopped and resume when going again

Another great Garmin!

Very happy with this Garmin. I was debating this one over the solar flavor as I don't expect to out use the 35 hours versus the 45 hours with the solar charging. I can skip a few days of charging with the Non-Solar due to my cycling schedule. I upgraded from the Edge 820 so I really like the screen size and audio directions. I still have not maximized all the features but having fun with the ones I have accessed so far.

Garmin Edge 1040 Review
on September 4, 2022

I recently purchase the Garmin Edge 1040 and have used the device for >12 activities. The simplicity to setup and link to another app is incredibly easy with the included instruction. What I love the BEST is the detailed information, color screen and sleek profile. The mount is included and very solid with no concerns of the Edge 1040 falling. I would absolutely recommend this Edge 1040 it truly amazing.
