So much data

Switched from another brand because I'm getting old and needed a bigger screen. That part alone was worth it for me, however, this device has so much more data and the system that it displays in was great. Highly recommend this.

Upgraded from 530

If you are at that age where small fonts are difficult to see, I'd highly recommend moving to a larger display like the 1040. So much easier for me to see what is going on. Yes, it's bigger and heavier, but I am not racing, just getting exercise, and what I am wearing and carrying amount to far more than any GPS unit. The audible alerts seem louder to me, which also helps, as I use the Garmin RTL 510 (HIGHLY recommended). Battery lasts forever; most of my rides are 2-3 hours and I expect I will get at least 10 rides before recharging. I would not bother with the solar option.

Garmin Edge 1040

Because I love the size of the unit and the mapping color as well as the ability to log my workouts, check all my data when training and help keep me in check. I've previously owned the Edge 1030. The 1040 map details and battery life are much better as well as the fast processing power. The 1040 is simple to use and well worth the money. I wouldn't go on a ride with out it.

Such great integration

Garmin knocked it out of the park with this unit. I got the bundle instead of the solar unit. I've used it 10 times or so since purchasing. I still have yet to charge it. Take the time to learn the interface. Once you overcome the learning curve, you have an incredible navigational ecosystem.
Downloading Komoot and Trailforks right to the unit is amazing. Garmin opened their API integration, meaning routes from your favorite trails are right on your unit.
Furthermore, and perhaps just a luxury item, music control integration is amazing because the screen works soooooo well with gloves. I do some IMBA epics and all day bikepacking. I love to have my Aftershockz in and they don't have good controls. This conquers that.

Great upgrade from 830

I upgraded to the 1040 from an 830 for the bigger screen and the longer battery life, and I've been really happy with it so far (a few hundred miles of gravel and road). Used the Garmin Connect app and it migrated all my profiles and sensors from the 830 to the 1040 seamlessly. I had been squinting a bit to read a 7-item layout on the 830 (I'm in my 50s) but the screen on the 1040 is awesome. Love that I can have my HR and Watts in the bottom of the map page and see them clearly at a glance. The battery life seems amazing too. My first ride with it was about 5 hours (paired to my phone, HR monitor, and power meter) after which the battery said it was at 92%. I've done a couple other long rides with it with similar results, even adding a radar light. So far super happy with the 1040 - everything I loved about the 830 and then some.

Love it has all the features that anyone could need very interactive love using it. Has a new type C charger which increasing charging speed and makes the device user friendly the touch screen also works pretty well when it's wet compared to my old wahoo that doesn't do so well. Love the features on it and has great compatibility with Strava. I am able to upload a route without connecting it to Garmin express 10/10 would recommend.
