Next Level Head Unit

Initial wanted to try the solar version, happy I didn't getting 20 hours per charge. Quick to acquire GPS signals, fast rerouting and syncing. Only issue I've heard of is sweat may change fields on the screen, prompting a screen lock.

Disappointed

The Garmin Edge 1040 lives up to its reputation with respect to battery life. However I was disappointed to find out I need a speed sensor to get accurate data from my rides. The Garmin help desk was responsive and have put one into the mail for me for free so I guess I should give a great review here but, I'm not sure I would have purchased to 1040 had I known I would also need to invest in a speed sensor for each of my bikes. My understanding when reading about the 1040 is the gps was improved (multiband gnss). Yet my ten year old Garmin 810 had no issues with the accurate tracking of my routes (even while riding under canopy) . The only thing that makes this palatable is Garmin's great customer service...which they have consistently had for years. I am continuing to use my 810 until my speed sensor is received and problem with NY 1040 is rectified.

So Far, So Really Good

I bought the 1040 as an upgrade for my 830. The larger screen is a major plus as is the longer battery life and multi GNSS. Accuracy is important to me as I do several races per year on remote trails that are gps navigation only. While the accuracy of the 830 was adequate in most situations, there were areas when trails ran parallel and close together and that posed a problem. I will be testing out the accuracy of the 1040 in an upcoming trail adventure.

Moved from watch to computer

Long time Garmin watch owner and have been slow to convince myself to buy an edge to have directly on the bike. Only regretting is waiting this long to convert. I use the 1040 on my mountain, road, commuter and e-bike. Shifts seamlessly between them all and provides valuable information with ease no matter the purpose of my ride.
