I like all the features but not intuitive

I love the size and the features. But even though I am a technically minded person. I have difficulty navigating the menus. it is not very intuitive. Need a better design or better coaching.

I originally owned the Edge 530 and was looking for more battery life and a bit larger screen for gravel rides. The Edge 1040 has been a massive improvement both in function and screen view. The battery life is better than what I expected per ride and I very rarely have to charge it. It was a super easy set up and I'm really happy I made the upgrade. Garmin still far exceeds any other computer brand I've tested.

I have been happy with my 1st gen Bolt for the past 4 years. But I wanted a bigger display and better navigation. The 1040 definitely gives me that and more. I was worried about set up, the bolt is known for how easy it is to use, but I had zero problems getting the 1040 up and running and all my wahoo sensors paired immediately as did the unit to my phone. (I'm fairly tech minded, so YMMV). There are many added features compared to my bolt, so I did take time to learn as much as I could about, like crash detection, bike alarm, remote phone media controls, touch screen navigation, etc. The features I use the most, basic data like speed, HR, power, cadence, etc, are displayed in a way that makes the move from Wahoo easy... The display is just bigger, so I can comfortably add more data fields, which I really like.
What don't I like? One thing I would really love would be the ability to display current gears for non electronic set ups. I believe it would be possible if Garmin let the user enter the current chain ring and cassette info....then it could use cadence and speed to calculate the current gear selection. I believe the old "Campy" computers did just that. Current gears are an option for modern electronic shifting.
Overall I'm pleased and plan to stick with this set up for a while.
