Great Features

I bought is a few weeks ago as an upgrade from the Garmin Edge 520 Plus. I love the touch screen and easy swipe between the various screens. The long battery life is also a great plus for me.

A solid if subtle upgrade from the 1030+

I upgraded from a line of Garmins, the last a 1030+. It is indeed a nice upgrade even if it is subtle. It is meaningfully faster to respond. The 1030 was always a bit laggy sliding pages for example and the 1040 just goes. More importantly, it gets the updated UX with bigger type faces in the boxes and just a more modern layout. Congratulations to Garmin for finally rolling new features back at least one generation. The new 1050 features that roll back (beta still but there) were the deciding factor for me. Almost all the new stuff (that I cared about) at a more reasonable price. Nice work. Small, silly thing. All Edge units have felt 'quality' but this one is a step up. Maybe it's just the metal mount but it feels nicer.
I do have one serious complaint. I was really looking forward to the ability to migrate my profiles (I have 8) and sensors over to the new unit. It did NOT work right. Every time the 1040 would crash when I moved profiles. I finally did figure out how to fully clean out the failed attempts (had to manually delete files, reset does NOT do it) and choose only the sensors and then manually rebuild the profiles. Not the end of the world, but a cruel joke that metadata migration can crash a device in such an ugly way. At least sensors moved which saves a lot of faffing
BTW, explain why a simple review form submit fails because of 'ad blockers'? Bad code

I bought this because of an altimeter problem with 1030 plus. Problem solved and so many new features. I love it.

Ya hice un par de salidas tanto en road como en mountain, muy buena información de desempeño fisico y sobre el terreno.
Todavía no pude explorar los mapas y las rutas pre mapeadas. Pero no creo que sea dificil.. La bateria dura muchisimo, estaba en dudas si compraba el solar o el regular, y me parece que hice una buena opción en comprar el último.
La experiencia de pairing con reloj, garmin connect y con la e bike fue muy buena, y amigable.

Great Screen, Great Features, Great Battery

My Garmin cycling computer progression has gone from Edge 130, Edge 530, Edge 830, and finally Edge 1040.
Obviously the 1040 is better in every aspect, but I have been blown away by how much I appreciate having a larger screen and extra battery life. I did a 12hr ride and still had over 75% battery left. The bigger screen makes for easier reading while on the bike. The gps is better than the 830. With the 830 I would always lose signal going thru a tunnel (which would stop tracking the segment). I do not have this problem with the 1040.
The additional information the 1040 tells me after a ride in the summary is fun (e.g estimated sweat loss, shifts, detailed power info).
If you’re coming from an older Edge model, consider the 1040 a good upgrade if you can find it for a decent price. Is it going to make you faster? No. But if you’re like me and you spend many hours on your bike, the bigger screen, additional information, and updated UI is a well worth upgrade.

Great for tracking ride data and navigation.

The Garmin Edge 1040 is great for tracking ride data as well as navigating routes while traveling. I like the security of knowing my wife can follow me with Live Track. And the emergency alert notification is is good for peace of mind.
This can be used by a beginner with its intuitive operation.
Also great for advanced riders who want all the detailed data.
It is best to take a little tome to learn the functionality of the buttons and screens.

Garmin has come a long ways. Came from a 500 and 810... then after the 810 died due to a torn button and no replacement parts. I went to a wahoo elemnt... wahoo defaced and would randomly turn off. Back to Garmin with this 1040 and I'll be staying.
Build quality is 10/10. Functionality is flawless. Battery life... Superior!
