Garmin 1040

The Garmin is showing a lower current speed than my bike computer by 3-5 mph.
The grade on a hill is 9% and the Garmin shows 14%.
Distance to the next turn is shown twice, once on the block for that and also at the bottom when approaching the turn. The two amounts can differ by up to .3 miles. I think one is using the uploaded tcx file and the is using satellite. Very frustrating.
Other than the above three items the Garmin functions well.

Worth the upgrade

I have been using the 1040 for a while now, I upgraded because of the multi streaming to GPS satellites, 1030 didn't do that! This is rock solid with navigation on complex courses, multi turns, backtracking! Although the battery is not as good, died after 7 hours on one ride, going to try lowering screen, shutting off DI2 connection next time! Didn't go for solar because of what I read screen hard to read, IE old eyes. They need to upgrade the battery, all and all a great unit and good upgrade!

UX Design a complete failure

I ride a lot 18000mi/year, and my 530 and I had ups and downs where the most annoying issue was syncing my long rides. It would take too long, fail sometimes require frequent resetup. So after some debate I decided to upgrade to the new 1040 with the new UX.
Great at first but after riding with it for a week now and about 700mi, I lost already two rides due to dumb button placement on the touchscreen. I do have fat big fingers but I can’t imagine this getting better with gloves in the winter season.
During longer breaks I usually hit stop and turn the garmin off. But turning it back on somehow discarded my ride once.
The second issue is the text message notification window close button popps up (if ride is stopped) directly on top of the Discard button.
After each ride it constantly fails to load the summary page as well, which results in nkt beeing able to look up a new route without starting a new activity first.
Long story short, please improve accidental ride “discards” with a other other button position as well as the “X” for the notifications.
